Because it does not abide in any place, it possesses the qualities of knowing reality as it is and being without conceptualization. These are the distinctions of bliss and realization. Furthermore, because it has abandoned the obstacles to liberation—the obscurations of afflictions together with their habitual tendencies—it possesses the quality of not being attached to the meaning of reality as it is. Because it has completely purified all the obscurations to omniscience—the obscurations of knowable objects—it possesses the quality of being completely unobstructed in all aspects of the meaning of reality as it is. Because it is without the obscurations of meditative absorption, such as sinking and excitement, the body and mind are supple and capable of practicing meditative stabilization, therefore it possesses the quality of being free from coarse tactile sensations. These are the distinctions of abandonment. Thus it is said. The qualities of purity are: the ultimate true Buddha does not have a form composed of accumulated particles, and because it transcends conditioned phenomena, it is not seen by the ordinary senses, which itself is possessing strength. Similarly, because it is without characteristics such as reasons, and is completely pure from the phenomena of consciousness, it possesses the quality of not being apprehended by the ordinary mind, and possesses the qualities of ultimate true virtue, because it possesses the naturally pure nature of the Dharma realm; and possesses the quality of being extremely stainless, because it has abandoned all temporary stains together with their habitual tendencies and is completely pure. Thus it is said. The meaning of entering through the distinction of the three bodies has two aspects: briefly stating the nomenclature of the characteristics; explaining its meaning in detail. In the brief statement, there are three aspects: the Essence Body (Svabhavikakaya) possesses five characteristics, namely, it lacks the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena—initial birth, middle dwelling, and ultimate cessation—and possesses the characteristic of being unconditioned; and the uncontaminated Dharma realm; and all the ultimate wisdoms are blended into one, therefore it possesses the characteristic of being indivisible; and because it is liberated from existence and non-existence, it possesses the characteristic of not falling into the two extremes of superimposition and denigration; and it possesses the characteristic of being free from the three obscurations of afflictions, knowable objects, and meditative absorption; and what is the naturally pure nature of the Dharma realm that is without the stains of afflictions and cannot become an object of conceptual thought?

That which is realized, the yogi who constantly abides in equanimity in the nature of reality, is directly seen by the Thus-Gone One as being of the nature of clear light. Likewise, it should be understood that it possesses five qualities: the quality of being immeasurable by signs because its essence is vast; the quality of being immeasurable in number, surpassing even the number of grains of sand in the Ganges River; the quality of being inconceivable by the mind because it is not an object of speculation; the quality of being unequaled because it is not shared with others and is at the ultimate extreme, that is, possessing the qualities of perfect realization. The perfectly pure realm of phenomena of the Thus-Gone One, which is manifest, possesses the quality of perfect abandonment because it has completely abandoned all faults, including the two obscurations and their predispositions. So it is said. The Enjoyment Body also possesses five distinctions: namely, the uninterrupted expression of speech by radiating the light of the profound and vast sacred Dharma of the Great Vehicle; the uninterrupted manifestation of various appearances by the body possessing the light of the sacred Dharma or the infinite light of the major and minor marks; the uninterrupted activity of diligently accomplishing the benefit of liberation for the sake of many supreme beings to be trained; and in so doing, just as a wish-fulfilling jewel king fulfills desires, it engages in being constant and effortlessly spontaneously accomplished without exertion, and although it shows various objects such as color and size according to the minds of the beings to be trained, it possesses the distinction of not being true in its own nature. So it is said. The Emanation Body possesses three qualities: namely, causing ordinary worldlings who have not entered the path to generate weariness with the three realms and to enter the path of peaceful nirvana; placing those who have entered the path of liberation in the profound and vast Great Vehicle and causing them to ripen; and gradually placing those who have ripened by the Great Vehicle on the pure grounds and prophesying their liberation.
