It is said that karma may change into other things, but the result will not necessarily occur in one way. Some people say that it has the same meaning as immovable karma, but this is not very good, because the difference between the two is very large. In this way, if these two minds (referring to the two situations mentioned above) work well, they may tend towards the cause of the afflicted absorption of unconsciousness However, it will not become the faultless samadhi of the four dhyanas and the formless realms either. Therefore, here, it can never be used as a meditation to be practiced. As it is said in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: "A mind devoid of emptiness, cessation will arise again, like the absorption of unconsciousness." This is considered to be the cause of the god of unconsciousness, where consciousness and its retinue are interrupted. Furthermore, many people mistakenly believe that the state of consciousness being in a daze between the cessation of the previous thought and the non-arising of the next thought is meditation, which is also incorrect. Because there is no certainty of vipassanā in it, it is like deep sleep, fainting, or drunkenness, or just a sudden startled mind, similar to a state of non-thought. Moreover, even if the clarity of mind appears in this state, it only becomes slightly awake (454), but it is not a meditation that directs the mind towards emptiness. Even if there is only the certainty of vipassanā, without the experience of śamatha where thoughts naturally cease, but like forcibly suppressing thoughts, even the slightest beginning of the appearance of thoughts will hinder and become an enemy, so it is very difficult to sustain this samadhi. For some beginners, it may be considered meditation, but it is by no means a meditation that has determined the reality. As Je Gampopa said: "During abiding, maintain non-thought. If in essence, non-thought is maintained, then the key to the Dharma is not understood." Some people think that stopping all thoughts from arising and focusing the mind on non-thought is a virtue. He said: "This cannot cut off the path, but opens the door of wisdom." Also, merely the state of mind being happy and bright, and not paying attention to any thoughts of the past, present, and future (455), just being in an empty state, and the mind...

Whether these are separate or the three combined, in short, any samadhi of bliss, clarity, and emptiness that lacks the definitive understanding of vipassanā, no matter how good, is not the meditation to be practiced here. Je Gampopa said that those called the certainty of the appearance path become the cause of cessation without individual examination, and he said that it is uncertain where its result will be born, and it will be explained again later. Furthermore, whatever appears or arises in the mind, or even when there is no other way of arising, in all circumstances, if one does not separate from the grasping of no true existence and emptiness, that is also not the meditation to be practiced here. Because one only relies on the continuous remembrance of considering the mind to be empty, and the definitive understanding of vipassanā does not appear. And if there is definitive understanding, it seems that one again generates attachment to emptiness and no true existence, so it becomes a great nihilistic view. As Nāgārjuna said, 'Those who view emptiness, I say they are incurable.' And, 'Due to wrongly viewing emptiness, those with little wisdom will be destroyed.' And, 'The non-existent one goes to bad destinies.' And so on, because it is prohibited. Here, some people, without carefully distinguishing these reasons, relying on hearing various explanations, say, 'A fool who meditates on Mahāmudrā mostly becomes a cause for animals, otherwise they are born in the formless realm, or they fall into the cessation of the śrāvakas.' This explanation is very wrong in its wording and is just wanting to speak. Why? Because meditating on Mahāmudrā leads to being born as an animal, so Mahāmudrā becomes the cause of animals. Also, a fool cannot meditate on Mahāmudrā, so according to this reasoning, (457) a fool also cannot engage in the three of hearing, thinking, and meditating. The causes of animals, the formless realm, and the cessation attainment of the śrāvakas have a common basis, so they become equal. Also, you yourself say, 'Our Mahāmudrā is the wisdom arising from empowerment.' Saying this is not allowed. In that case, a fool also cannot meditate on the wisdom arising from empowerment, and a fool cannot become a vessel for empowerment. If that is not allowed,
