Thus it is said. And in the Guhya it says: From beginningless existence, it transforms, into clinging to external objects. All are magical displays of the mind, the nature of mind pervades all. Thus it is said. So, how is it that not only do things appear as external objects, but also that things like hardness are established as their own characteristics? It is because the habits of delusion have become very numerous, familiar, and ingrained. Therefore, even in the external world, things appear as if they have their own characteristics, such as hardness. As the great Brahmin said: When the wind enters the water and stirs it, even the soft (366) water turns into the shape of a stone. When ignorance, which is formless, is stirred by thought, it becomes very hard and solid. This is how the example is applied to the meaning. It is not possible to establish something as true simply because it appears in delusion, like the appearance of hair and dizziness to someone with an eye disease. That is, although hair and so on appear to be obvious to someone with an eye disease, nothing appears to someone without an eye disease. So, if one knows the nature of the mind, is there no appearance of external objects? That is not the case. If the common karma and habits, which are like eye disease, have not been reversed, then just knowing the way the mind is deluded and its nature, like knowing the fault of eye disease, cannot reverse the appearance. As Birwapa said: If one does not abide in the state of realization and is distracted by signs, the habits of dualistic appearance will not be reversed. Even if someone with dizziness (367) knows what is inside the eye, the appearance of dizziness will not disappear until the eye disease is cured. Thus it is said. However, when one realizes the nature of the mind without any error, it is said that the way everything appears does not cease, but it appears as inseparable from the essence of the mind. As it says in the Guhya: There is nothing that has arisen outside of the mind. All the various appearances, such as forms, are appearances of this very mind. Thus it is said. And in the Commentary on the Bodhicitta it says: The imputed, the dependent, and the perfectly established, this very nature of emptiness, are examined as the essence of the mind. Thus it is said. Secondly, the great Brahmin said: The mind alone is the seed of all things, from which arise existence and nirvana. Thus it is said that the root of all existence and peace is the nature of mind alone. Whatever separates from the mind (368)

Thus arising. That is the nature of the Protector, are water and steam different? Existence and equality are the nature of space. Thus, it is said that everything arising from or appearing in the mind is the nature of the mind. The Sutra says: The mind is without mind, the nature of the mind is luminosity. Thus, the nature of the mind is said to be luminosity and emptiness. Therefore, if one realizes the essence of the mind as emptiness, one can indirectly realize the essence of appearances as emptiness. The Sutra says: If one knows the suchness of one dharma, one will know the suchness of all dharmas. Similarly, Aryadeva says: Whoever sees the suchness of one thing, sees the suchness of all things. Like that. Furthermore, in the Four Hundred Verses it says: Whoever is the seer of one thing, is said to be the seer of all. What is the emptiness of one (369), that is the emptiness of all. Thus, the one who examines or sees the nature of one thing, such as form, is the same as the one who examines or sees the nature of all other things, such as sound. Similarly, the emptiness of one thing, such as form, which is empty of its own nature, is also the emptiness of all other things, such as sound, which are empty of their own nature. Thus it is said. Jowo's Two Truths also says: The difference of emptiness, not even one exists. Like that. Therefore, one should know how to apply the reasoning of the mind-essence determined by the aforementioned analysis and examination to determine the essence of all appearances. As the Samadhiraja Sutra says: As your perception is, so should you apply your wisdom to all. All dharmas are of that nature, completely pure like space. One also knows all, one also sees all. Thus, as it is said in the Sutra, knowing and seeing the state of one dharma means knowing and seeing the state of all dharmas. Therefore, in this Kagyu tradition, the term "one liberation, all liberation" is also accepted. However, in this context, when the nature of appearance is determined, the emptiness in which the nature or essence of appearance is not established anywhere, and the appearance of appearance without cessation, are inseparable.
