There is nothing other than name. It is just a name, like looking at consciousness. Even the name is without inherent existence. Whether inside or outside, (355) or in between the two, the Victorious Ones have not found the mind. Therefore, the mind is of the nature of illusion. Whether it is the distinction of color and shape, or the object and the subject, or male, female, hermaphrodite, etc., the essence of the mind does not exist. In short, the Buddhas have not seen, do not see, possessing the nature of non-inherent existence, how can they see? Thus, it is briefly explained. Also, in the Compendium of Trainings, it says: "The secret instruction of all the Tathagatas, from the practice of truth, is not the object of those who look outward, it is extremely difficult to grasp, the mind that is completely asked about the object of the Buddhas, that is rootless, without dwelling, without basis, without characteristics, without form and color, beyond the senses, not the object of speculators." And it says: "In truth, the mind (356) is devoid of color and shape, it is merely appearance, the essence of being equal to space, like the ultimate truth, it is difficult to touch." Thus it is said. Fourth, if one searches properly for the mind as described above, it is ultimately said that the mind is not a form with shape and color, etc., without a place or support, beyond grasping and change, unpolluted by all elaborations, like the sky. In the Sutra of Great Compassion, it says: "The mind is like the sky, having the nature of the sky, tending to be equal to the sky." Also, in the Sutra of Maitreya's Questions, it says: "Lord, how should I look at the inner mind?" The answer is: "The mind is without shape, like the sky." Also, in the Ornament of Clear Realization, it says: "The mind is the nature of the sky, (357) therefore it is free from all thoughts and concepts." Thus, there are many ways in which the mind is said to be like the sky. The Great Brahmin also said: "The mind should be grasped as like the sky, the mind should be grasped as the nature of the sky." Shavara said: "The mind that is cut off at the root is like the sky." Thus, it is said. Although there are many ways in which the mind is like the sky, here, each

When examining with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, ultimately even that which is realized subsides, thereby purifying into non-conceptualization. This is like when looking at the sky, sight ceases. As Tilopa said: For example, when looking at the center of the sky, seeing will cease. Likewise, when the mind looks at the mind, the aggregates of conceptualization cease, and one attains unsurpassed enlightenment. For example, heaps of clouds dissolve into the realm of the sky, nowhere to go and nowhere to stay. Likewise, the aggregates of conceptualization arising from the mind, when one's own mind sees its own mind, the waves of conceptualization dissolve. Thus it is said. Also: Even if one thoroughly applies the term emptiness to the sky, one cannot say anything like this about the sky. Likewise, even if one says that one's own mind is luminous, there is no basis for applying the term to say that it is established as such. Therefore, the nature of the mind is like the sky. Thus it is said. Shawa Ra said: Even if one searches throughout the entire realm of the sky, there is neither edge nor center, and seeing completely ceases. Likewise, if one completely searches for mind and phenomena, one will not find even a particle of essence. Since the mind that completely searches cannot be found either, the state of not seeing anything is itself seeing. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Light Protector, it says: From rubbing two pieces of wood together, fire arises, and the fire that arises burns those two pieces of wood. Likewise, when (359) the power of wisdom arises, the wisdom that arises burns those two. Thus it is said. First, by examining with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, ultimately that conceptualization itself also subsides, thereby explaining that non-conceptual wisdom arises. So, is there a slightly different distinction between mind and sky, or not? If one thinks there is or is not, then there is. Because the sky is not the awareness of knowing itself, but if one realizes the mind, then it is explained that it itself is the wisdom of knowing itself. As it says in the Explanation of the Thought Sutra: Each individually, the object of experience is without characteristics, inexpressible, cutting off terms, devoid of contention, is the ultimate truth, this is the characteristic that transcends all conceptualization. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Prophecy of the Thought, it says: The definitive meaning of the mind of enlightenment, again, that itself is well practiced, not inside, nor outside, it will not become neither of the two, not permanent, (360) not momentary, that is each individually self-aware. Thus it is said. In the Two Examinations Sutra, it says: This wisdom of one's own awareness is the object of experience that transcends the path of speech.
