Or, do you think it exists between the two? They replied, "No." They said, "O long-lived ones! If the mind is not form, invisible, without appearance, without obstruction, without location, not a cognition, not inside, not outside, and without both, and without an object, do you think it is also without perfect accomplishment?" They (350) replied, "No." Thus, again, from the Ratnakuta Sutra: Thus, completely search for the mind. What is the mind that has become attached, hateful, or deluded? Is it something past, future, or presently arising? To that, the past mind is exhausted. The future mind is unborn. The presently arising mind is thought to be without abiding. Kashyapa, the mind is not inside, nor outside, nor is it perceived as both. Kashyapa, the mind is indivisible, invisible, without support, without appearance, without cognition, without location. And so on. Kashyapa, the mind is not found when completely searched for. What is not found is without an object. What is without an object is not past, not future, not presently arising. What is not past, not future (351), and not presently arising is completely beyond the three times. What is completely beyond the three times is neither existent nor nonexistent. And so on. From the Crown Jewel Sutra: Searching for that mind, that mind is not truly seen within. Connect it in the same way. That mind is outside, that mind is inside and outside, from the aggregates, from the elements, from the sense bases, it is not truly seen. Because one does not truly see the mind in this way, one completely searches for the cause of the mind, asking from where the mind arises, and one thinks thus: the mind arises from having an object. And one also thinks thus: is the object other and the mind other? Or is the object itself the mind? If the object is other and the mind is also other, then the mind (352) becomes two. Or if the object itself is the mind, then how can the mind see itself? The mind cannot see the mind.

Thus it is said. In the Abhisamayalankara, it says: Secret Lord, how does one fully understand one's own mind? It is like this: in form or color or shape or place, in form or feeling or perception or formation or consciousness, in self or belonging to self or what is taken or what takes or pure or impure, in realm or source or between all forms, even if one searches completely, it cannot be found. Thus it is said. Secret Lord, Bodhi and omniscience should be sought completely from one's own mind. Why is that? Because the mind is naturally completely pure, it is not inside, nor outside (353), nor can it be found between the two. Secret Lord, the mind is not seen by the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha, nor will it be seen. It is not blue. Similarly, apply it to: yellow, red, white, lotus color, crystal color, short, long, round, square, bright, dark, female, male, neither male nor female. Secret Lord, the mind is not the nature of the desire realm, not the nature of the form realm, not the nature of the formless realm. It is not the nature of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans and non-human beings, and sentient beings of the same kind. Secret Lord, the mind does not dwell in the eye, does not dwell in the body (354), does not dwell in the mind. Why is that? Because the mind is the nature of space, therefore it is free from all concepts and delusions. Thus and so on, it is said many times in both Sutras and Tantras. In short, when examining the mind, it is said to examine in all places inside and outside, including color and shape, place and support, how to identify and change, and including what takes and what is taken. At the end of the examination, the nature of the mind is not material, there is nothing to rely on, and so on, it has many characteristics, does not dwell anywhere inside or outside, and is free from all conceptual thoughts, and is shown to be similar to space. Similarly, in the Bodhicitta Explanation, it says: The mind is just a name.
