Clinging to these faults only exposes one's own shortcomings of not understanding the situation and not having seen many treatises. The reality of emptiness and the reality of mind are the same, and similarly, the practice of these two is also the same, which will be gradually explained in subsequent chapters, so I will not elaborate on it here. Regarding the statement that mind-essence is considered the primordial Buddha, as it is said in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: "The mind-essence that has abandoned conceptualization is the transformation of the consciousness of the mind. In order to know all dharmas, the mind is explained as the Buddha." The *Kālacakra Root Tantra* says: "The mind-essence of sentient beings is luminous, originally without birth, cessation, or abiding, from before the beginning, it is the first supreme Buddha, unpolluted by causeless conditions." The *Condensed Tantra* says: "Sentient beings are all Buddhas, there is no other great Buddha in this world." The *Vajraḍākinī* says: "Because one realizes one's own mind, sentient beings are originally Buddhas." The *Two Examinations* says: "In whatever world, no other Buddha can be found. The mind itself is the perfect Buddha; there is no other Buddha to be shown." The *Mañjuśrī's Oral Instructions* says: "The chief of all things is one's own mind; if one realizes its essence, that itself is Buddhahood and enlightenment." There are many such scriptural proofs. The ultimate method for realizing such a primordial Buddha is to practice mind training, and the way to attain liberation through mind training is as stated in the *Ugraparipṛcchā Sūtra* (339): "Relying on what does one train the mind? One should know that all is empty. Having known that all dharmas are empty, enlightenment itself is also empty." The *Vajra Pavilion* says: "Driven by the precious mind, one becomes a Buddha by meditating on the mind-essence, one becomes a Buddha in a noble birth." "Where emptiness and compassion are inseparable, wherever the mind is meditated upon, that is also the teaching of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha." There are many such statements in the sutras. In the sutra aspect, one should also understand that there are teachings on training the conventional bodhicitta and training the ultimate bodhicitta.

In summary, the manner in which the teachings are delivered, the actual stages of practice, and the combination of scriptural references to understand them, there are four ways to settle the mind. The first is: generally, all phenomena are regarded as mind, and after examining that the mind also lacks inherent existence, in order to cut off the superimposition on it, one cultivates the view of insight. From where is this method of cultivation taught? The Ornament of the Sutras states: 'Having realized with wisdom that there is nothing other than mind, then also realize that the nature of mind is emptiness. Having realized with wisdom that both are empty, abide in the realm of phenomena that is without them.' Also, the Explanation of the Mind of Enlightenment states: 'Having dwelt in the mere mind, those of great capacity also abandon it. To those who speak of consciousness, all these various defilements become mind. If asked what is the nature of consciousness? It should be said that it is that very nature. All these are only mind, as the Able One has taught, to dispel the fear of children, therefore he said it is not real. The imputed and the other-dependent, and the perfectly established, this is the single nature of emptiness, its nature is what is manifested by the mind. In the nature of the joy of the Great Vehicle, the selflessness of phenomena is equality, the nature of mind is primordially unborn, the Buddha has spoken concisely.' Also, the First Stage of Cultivation states: 'He thinks thus: the three realms are only mind. Having thought thus, he understands that all phenomena are only mind. If one examines each of them separately, it is also examining the nature of all phenomena separately.' Thus, one separately examines the nature of the mind. He thinks and examines thus: in terms of ultimate truth, the mind should not be real. Why? When, with the nature of falsehood, the mind that grasps the aspects of form and so on, appears as various aspects, how can it be real at that time? Just as form and so on are false, the mind is also not different from them, so it is also false. Just as form and so on are various aspects, so it is not the nature of one or many, likewise the mind is also not different from them, so it is not the nature of one or many. Therefore, the mind is only like the nature of illusion and so on. As the mind is, so are all phenomena, the nature of illusion and so on.
