It is to ascertain the state of all phenomena. Regarding how to generate such insight, there are the four insights explained in the extensive Sutra Commentary and the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the three insights explained in the intermediate Commentary on the Intentional Meaning, and the insights that condense the meaning of these into meditating on the two selflessnesses. Regarding the latter, most Indian logicians rely on the treatises of the noble Nagarjuna and Asanga (333), analyzing through great reasonings such as one and many, thereby establishing the view that all grasping and apprehended are without inherent existence, although they do not explain the method of meditating on emptiness. However, in this land of Tibet, realizing the correct view through these methods is merely a possibility. Nowadays, most people seem to rely on intellectual after-wisdom, merely making the general meaning of emptiness an object of mind. These become contrived emptinesses such as emptiness of analysis and emptiness of inert matter, and the ways in which they become temporary emptinesses have been explained before in conjunction with scripture and reason. Here, it is the method of relying on the major and minor treatises and instructions transmitted from the great Brahmin, the glorious Shavaripa, and the lord of yoga Tailopa, aiming at mind-only to establish all grasping and apprehended, thereby generating the view of emptiness of inherent nature (334). Therefore, it seems that there are many profound characteristics of attaining great benefit with little effort, and it is very wonderful because it is almost the same in essence as the gradual path of the sutras, the instructions of the Prajnaparamita, the three stages of Kamalashila's Stages of Meditation, and the instructions of Jowo's Madhyamaka. Therefore, it is necessary to explain this method in any way possible. Fourth, ascertaining the nature of various mind appearances and severing the imputations on the root. The former is divided into three: the reason for accomplishing the meaning by aiming at mind-only, the root - ascertaining the nature of mind, and the branch - ascertaining the nature of conceptual thought and appearance. First, in general, the explanation that all phenomena are shown as mind, and the faults of not meditating on the meaning of mind and the qualities of meditating on it have been explained before. In short, all the faults and qualities of samsara and nirvana depend on mind or arise from mind.

Therefore, it is crucial to focus on the mind (335) and meditate. As stated in the Sutra of Gathering the True Dharma: Bodhisattvas, with minds that subdue, requested the Blessed One, 'What is the Dharma that is called 'Dharma, Dharma'? It does not abide in a place, nor does it abide in a direction. Other than that, the Dharma depends on one's own mind.' Therefore, I should extremely control, exhaust, subdue, equally abide, and thoroughly cut off my own mind. As it is said. Similarly, it is also said that if you know the mind, you know all Dharmas, and if the mind is liberated, everything is liberated. As it says in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra: The mind precedes all Dharmas; if the mind is fully understood, all Dharmas will be fully understood. And in 'འདའ་ཀ་ཡེ་ཤེས་': If you realize the mind, it is wisdom. Therefore, one should diligently cultivate the notion of not seeking the Buddha from elsewhere. (336) And the Great Brahmin said: If the mind is bound, it becomes bondage; if it is liberated, there is no doubt. And, Alas! If one realizes the mind with a deluded mind, one will be naturally liberated from all evil views. By the power of supreme great bliss, abiding in it is the supreme accomplishment. As it is said. Tilopa also said: For example, a tree with branches and leaves flourishing, if one root is cut, a million branches and leaves wither. Cutting the root of the mind is the same for samsara. As it is said, cutting the root of the mind also cuts off the stream of samsara. Shantideva also said that if the mind is not understood, everything becomes a cause of suffering; and if the nature of the mind is recognized and protected, it is the supreme asceticism. As it says in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: If one does not know this supreme lord of Dharma, the secret of the mind, even if one desires to attain happiness and destroy suffering, they wander aimlessly. And, Thus, I should well grasp and well protect (337) this mind. Apart from the asceticism of protecting the mind, what is the use of other asceticism? As it is said. Some who speak of terms say: Liberation is attained through meditating on emptiness. If one believes that the mind itself is the primordial Buddha, and that liberation is attained through meditating on the mind, then all sentient beings will effortlessly attain liberation. This statement is due to their own delusions, thinking that emptiness is good and the mind is bad.
