And the names such as "Mother" and so on. Because of the absence of inherent existence, nothing else is spoken of there. Thus, the various categories of names are also explained. Secondly, the nature of Mahamudra is explained as: not abiding anywhere, being separate from all characteristics, pervading everything, like the sky. Indrabodhi said: How does the sky not abide? It pervades and is separate from all characteristics. This is the ultimate truth itself. And Maitripa said: The coemergent, beyond-mind Mahamudra is clear and non-conceptual, like the sky. Pervading and vast, the great compassion is apparent but without inherent existence, like the moon in water. Clear and free from words, free from all edges and centers. Unstained by anything, immaculate, free from hope and doubt. Like a dream of a mute person, it cannot be spoken. As it is said, and so on. The divisions are: the three Mahamudras of the ground, path, and fruition. That is, in general, the nature of all dharmas, from the very beginning, is free from all elaborations, the emptiness of self-luminous clarity, which has become the all-pervading lord of samsara and nirvana. In particular, the clear, transparent, and ungraspable nature of one's own mind, the original state of being, which is beyond the realm of thought and expression, is the ground Mahamudra. Relying on the path of hearing, contemplation, and meditation, etc., all dharmas included in appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, are realized from the very beginning as being without the nature of arising, ceasing, and abiding, as self-luminous emptiness. The special view and meditation (170) that recognizes one's own face in experience is the path Mahamudra. When that ground Mahamudra is familiarized with the path Mahamudra, just like the clear sky, even the subtle and subtle appearances of duality are purified. Having become a single wisdom that is free from obscurations and possesses two purities, this is the fruition Mahamudra. These can also be divided into internal categories. In the Uttaratantra, it says: Impure, slightly impure, pure, and extremely pure in order. Sentient beings, Bodhisattvas, and Tathagatas in order. Thus, dividing the Tathagatagarbha into three is a division of the ground Mahamudra. In the Sri Heruka Tantra, it says: By individually discriminating emptiness, it will also transform into samadhi and wisdom. Thus, it is divided into shamatha and vipashyana. In the Essence of Wisdom Tantra, it says: Mahamudra is divided into four here, the action seal

Mudrā and the mudrā of samaya, the mudrā of wisdom and the mudrā of dharma. Thus, dividing into four mudrās and so on are the divisions of the path Mahāmudrā. Indrabodhi, in the method of accomplishing wisdom, said: Just as an image appears clearly in a mirror, likewise, wisdom in the dharmakāya is called the mirror of appearance. Thus, dividing into five wisdoms and three kāyas and so on should be known as the divisions of the result Mahāmudrā. Third, if one does not know and realize the nature of Mahāmudrā, even if one knows hundreds of thousands of other yogas, one will not attain the supreme fruit of liberation. If one knows and realizes it, one will know all dharmas and become Vajrasattva, as it is said in the Bindu of Mahāmudrā: Whoever does not know the great mudrā, even if a Buddha, is not a yogi. This bindu of the great mudrā, whoever does not know its purity, even if he knows a million yogas of the tantra of yogis and yoginīs, in that way, that supreme fruit will never arise. If one knows all dharmas completely, then he is definitely a Buddha. If one knows the great mudrā well, then he will become glorious Vajrasattva. The wisdom of its own nature is the characteristic of the great mudrā. And in the Bodhicitta Explanation it says: Those who do not know emptiness, they do not rely on liberation. In the prison of the six realms of existence, those ignorant ones will wander in samsara. And Maitrīpa said: Whoever directly realizes that suchness, all phenomena and existence are the great mudrā, the dharmakāya is vast and all-pervading. And, whoever does not realize that suchness, will not be liberated except temporarily. If one realizes that suchness, by what is one bound? As it is said. Second, in the sutra sections, the meaning of this very Mahāmudrā is spoken of by giving various other names of mudrās, as in the Sutra Requested by Sagaramati: Sagaramati, all dharmas are sealed with the mudrā of liberation, which is non-dual and completely pure. And, all dharmas are without distinction like the center of the sky, therefore all dharmas are sealed with the mudrā of equality. And, since the grasping of self is completely pure, it is the stainless mudrā.
