Since the basis is not in accord, it is impossible for you to have the single essential mind of Śamatha-Vipassanā united. In the commentary on the *Sūtra View Explanation*, when explaining the union of Śamatha-Vipassanā, the scholar Ye shes snying po said, "The path of Śamatha focuses solely on the mind that is the object of Vipassanā. Since both the object and the subject are the very nature of the mind, they are not different." This is also unreasonable. Even when entering into Suchness, repeatedly examining and generating an attachment to emptiness or non-attachment is not accepted or reasonable by any other proponents of definitive meaning in Tibet and China. In the *Praise of Dharmadhātu* (150), it says, "For all phenomena that are primarily mental, abandoning all conceptualization and examination, from the very nature of the absence of inherent existence of all phenomena, one should meditate in the Dharmadhātu." And the Great Brahmin said, "The essence that is stainless, untouched by extremes, is naturally pure from the beginning, and is not to be examined by all. If one examines it, it is merely touching a poisonous snake." And so on, which contradicts many scriptures. Conceptual examination with sound and meaning is the deluded conventional wisdom, because examination of the ultimate definitive meaning is prohibited. Nāgārjuna said, "The ultimate is not the object of the mind, the mind is considered to be conventional." It is also unreasonable to think that grasping the meaning of the nature of reality with the mind will not become grasping at characteristics. The *Collected Verses* says, "Even if one thinks that these aggregates are empty, the Bodhisattva does not engage in characteristics, and does not believe in the place of non-arising." And the *Perfection of Wisdom Sutra* says that from form to omniscience, whatever one engages in, whether permanent or impermanent, empty or not empty, with self or without self (151), it is said to be engaging in characteristics. The Great Brahmin said, "If the mind that thinks 'it is pleasing' is cherished as it falls into the heart, even the prick of a sesame seed husk will only cause suffering." And, "Whatever you are attached to, let it go." And so on, many things are said. To say that all non-conceptualizations that are free from individual discrimination are in accordance with the meditation of Hwa shang is also extremely excessive. The *Explanation of the Mind of Enlightenment* says, "Non-conceptualization is emptiness. Wherever conceptualization appears, where is emptiness there?" And, in the *Entering the Middle Way*, "Conceptualizations\

"Whatever becomes the cause of the earth splitting, the wise say is the fruit of discernment." And, in the context of the method of abiding in Jowo Je's 'Quintessence of Madhyamaka,' it says, "In the meantime, consciousness does not discriminate anything, nor does it grasp anything." All such statements about abiding in non-discrimination become the meditation of Heshang (152). Furthermore, holding everything to be truly empty, that wisdom is said to be the conceptualization of permanence in the context of the Maitreya teachings. It is said to be abandoned by the wisdom of non-discrimination, so it cannot be a correct view. Even if it is applied to the horse of calm abiding, it will not become a correct view and practice. According to your own view, if it is calm abiding, it must be non-discriminating, and if it is separated from discrimination, insight will be lost. Therefore, the horse and what is applied to it will become very contradictory. And, at the end of examining with individual discrimination, individual discrimination itself is said to be self-pacified. Therefore, at that time, insight will also be lost, and it will become the meditation of Heshang, etc. Although it seems that many scriptural and logical examinations will arise, I have not elaborated on it for fear of prolixity. Second, establishing one's own system: Previously, in the chapter on insight, it has been possible to understand by identifying the view and explaining the method of cultivation, and by the scriptures and reasoning (153) that sequentially explain the cutting of doubts. Here, too, I will explain a little. The actual realization of the view of emptiness as it is, is said to occur when one attains the level of an Arya. Therefore, in this case, it is the establishment of the view that has become the object of ordinary beings. That is to say, no matter which side one relies on, whether it is the analytical meditation or the abiding meditation mentioned above, it is very important to obtain the view of emptiness. If one does not obtain it, then no matter how good the view and practice are, one will not be able to cut the root of existence, as stated in the sutras. In the 'Commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment,' it says: Those who do not know emptiness, They do not rely on liberation. In the prison of the six realms of existence, Those ignorant beings will wander in samsara. Therefore. If one does not obtain an undeluded view, it is absolutely impossible. As Naropa's 'Summary of Views' says: Thus, the view is without error, Meditation and conduct, Being in accordance with reality, one attains enlightenment, Like a horse that shows the target. If the view (154) does not accord with reality, meditation
