It is also unreasonable to become something. If the view of uniting stillness and insight arises, then practicing single-point meditation on that view itself will have both stillness and insight, because it is the union of stillness and insight. It is also unreasonable to meditate on the basis of the view and then repeatedly examine it. Because the examination of scriptures and reasoning does not go beyond conceptualizations with linguistic meaning, and that is the conceptualization of ignorance, therefore it is said to be abandoned by non-conceptual wisdom. In the Questions of Light Protection and the Stages of Meditation, it is also said that non-conceptual wisdom arises from the wisdom of individual examination. This only shows that it is indispensable to have that wisdom when initially establishing the view. However, it does not show that it is necessary to repeatedly contemplate and examine (136) when cultivating the view. Moreover, most of the certainty obtained through rational examination does not go beyond reasoning and inference arising from thought. That cannot become wisdom that is free from conceptualization and without error. It is also unreasonable to think that meditation on the basis of view is the same as abiding in stillness, because abiding in stillness is merely maintaining the continuity of mindfulness without conceptualizing anything other than its object. Meditating on the basis of view is to maintain the continuity of freedom from elaboration in accordance with the understanding of emptiness of inherent existence, so the difference between the two is very great. So, how should one examine and abide when cultivating the view? Initially, when searching for the view, just as showing a horse the racetrack, it is very helpful to generate certainty by using the wisdom of hearing and thinking to cut off the superimpositions on the self-characteristic and the general characteristic. For the very search for the correct view, the wisdom of individual examination arising from meditation is very important. When one examines and contemplates with it, one can directly measure that all phenomena are without essence or without inherent existence (137) without relying on inference. Furthermore, one will also experience that the individual examination itself is not established as any entity without appearance. That is the actual basis of the view. Examining and contemplating in that way is also examining with the wisdom of equanimity that has not lost the continuity of mindfulness during meditation, and not examining with conceptualizations that have linguistic meaning. As the First Stage of Meditation says: In this way, when the mind is stable on the object of stillness, it is also possible to examine in detail with wisdom.

The light of wisdom arises, and at that time, the arising of light is like dispelling darkness. These two are also like the eye and light, harmoniously existing for the arising of correct wisdom, not like light and darkness, which are internally unharmonious. Samadhi is not the nature of darkness. If you think so, then it is the characteristic of the mind being focused on one point. If you abide in this, you will thoroughly understand as it is. (138) As it is said, it is very harmonious with wisdom, not unharmonious. Therefore, if you observe with the wisdom of abiding, then all dharmas are unattainable, and this is the supreme of unattainability. The characteristic of such a state of yogis is naturally accomplished, because there is nothing else to be observed beyond that. As it is said. Individually observing, when it itself becomes peaceful, and finally sees that all dharmas have no self-nature, then this is seeing the true meaning. It is said in that itself: What is seeing the ultimate truth? It is that all dharmas are invisible. Considering such invisibility, it is said to be invisible. But this is not like closing the eyes and the blind, etc., because the conditions are not complete, or because of not paying attention, it is invisible. As it is said. If you observe with the wisdom of abiding, then all dharmas are unattainable, (139) and this is the supreme of unattainability. As it is said. Therefore, when seeking a view, first of all, it is necessary to analyze and practice from the state of calm abiding and insight, through the wisdom of individual observation. Even if you find a view, if in the middle the mind is disturbed by the conceptual mind of clinging to characteristics, then at that time you should also analyze and practice according to the situation. After obtaining a correct understanding of the view, in order to make the view familiar, in all cases, you should practice calm abiding and insight on the basis of the view, rather than alternating between analysis and abiding. Regarding this, the scriptural citations that serve as evidence will be explained. Fourth, it is divided into: analyzing other schools and establishing one's own school. The first part is: Some early Tibetans believe that rejecting all clinging to characteristics and not paying attention to any dharma is the view, which is unreasonable. Others say that this is the same as the school of Heshang, this is just
