Eliminate. For dullness and agitation, mostly take separate remedies and observe more. If it is very dull, the fault is great, so do whatever confession is appropriate. Ask the lama for empowerment and take many samadhi empowerments. Do tsokhor, offerings, and generosity, and ask the lama and experienced Dharma friends to eliminate faults. If the fault is very serious, and you do not want to tell the lama and Dharma friends, and if wrong views arise, it is an obstacle of the devil, so take refuge quickly. Develop and cultivate renunciation, detachment, devotion, pure perception, and compassion. For a few days, refresh yourself from fatigue and do various body yogas. Then, as mentioned before, cultivate samadhi single-mindedly with various means of retaining and holding mindfulness, like a fisherman catching fish. Do not follow the realm of conceptualization and the state of non-conceptualization (704), and the experience of sensations and the appearance of subsequent wisdom. Do not be attached to good experiences, and do not criticize bad experiences, but let whatever thoughts arise in the mind flow without engaging in acceptance or rejection. If the experience is too thick, it will obscure the face, so separate the moisture of the experience again and again. Sharpen the intelligence and maintain the unmodified original awareness itself. Sometimes, also look at the biographies and vajra songs of the Kagyu masters who have maintained the practice through hard work and perseverance, and generate the courage to cultivate such a biography yourself. Even if you practice single-pointed yoga for many years, if you have not achieved freedom from elaboration, it is said that you should abandon the three attachments. Abandoning attachment to self means cutting off the bonds of attachment to this life and leaving the crowd. Abandoning attachment and aversion to enemies and friends, and abandoning worldly entanglements. Offer the body to the lama. (705) Abandoning the cherishing of the body, and making many offerings of food for kusulu. Abandoning attachment to enjoyment means offering all wealth and possessions as offerings that please the lama. To please the yidam, etc., make offering tormas and tsokhors. To please Vajra brothers, make offerings. Give up the desire to enjoy comfort, food, and splendor. Disregard food, clothing, and speech. As mentioned before, act like a wild animal. Abandon places of attachment, aversion, and distraction, such as the homeland. If you cannot abandon it no matter what, then pass the year

In short, sever the elaborations. Abandoning attachment to samadhi means destroying all the good experiences of joy, delight, and faith. Regarding the true nature, whatever arises, determine that there is neither good nor bad. One needs a (706) naked, genuine mind essence that is free from experiences, without straying from its original state and without meditating on anything else. As Je Gampopa said, "In the beginning, one should train in clear awareness. One should also train in non-distraction. One should train in the essence of awareness never being distracted. Once one is familiar with this, one will generate certainty within oneself." Je Gyarapa also said, "Once one enters a state of single-pointedness, experiences vanish and one meditates without meditation." Therefore, in this state of single-pointedness, there is a great risk of straying into experiences and realizations. Practitioners who lack wisdom or have relied on a lama for too short a time become attached to the nectar of experience. Although they spend their lives practicing, they do not recognize the nature of mind, or they recognize it at first but then lose it. Je Gampopa said, "The view without realization, even if it is said to be free from extremes, is still mind-made. The meditator without thorough determination, even if their samadhi is good, is still a cause of samsara." Je Drikungpa said, "Good, uncorrected experiences are the cause of being born in higher realms of the gods." Therefore, it is crucial that no mental clinging or grasping (707) is added to the naked reality of the mind itself. The Great Brahmin said, "Whatever you are attached to, let it go." Je Gampopa said, "The meditator with dualistic grasping, even if they experience it, is meaningless." By practicing in this way, gradually, virtuous actions will increase. Then, from those experiences and attachments of single-pointedness, one will be liberated from the dualistic grasping of viewing external objects as empty and the subject as one's own mind, and the realization of freedom from elaboration will arise. Second, the yoga of freedom from elaboration includes three aspects: the classification of freedom from elaboration, the way experiences arise, and the method of cultivating it. First, the meaning of freedom from elaboration is that the nature of mind, like the sky, is free from the elaborations of the three—arising, ceasing, and abiding—as well as permanence, annihilation, going, coming, and so on. Therefore, it is called freedom from elaboration. As the Root Verses say, "Neither ceasing nor arising, neither annihilation nor permanence, neither coming nor going, neither different nor the same, all elaborations are completely pacified, all phenomena are forever peaceful."
