Sapa Khor-yu: This explains the differences in realization of the four yogas. Furthermore, in the yoga of one-pointedness, there is the cause and effect of accumulating habits; in the yoga of simplicity, there is the cause and effect like illusion; in the yoga of one taste, there is the cause and effect like the sky; in the yoga of no meditation, there is the knowledge of groundlessness and dependent origination. This explains the ways in which the cause and effect of the four yogas manifest. Regarding this meaning, some say: After seeing the nature of mind, the cause and effect of karma does not arise, just as seeds cannot be sown in the sky. This statement seems plausible, but it is actually very unreasonable. Although the term "meeting the nature of mind" exists in the meditation of one-pointedness, because there is impure clinging there, the karma of accumulating habits is accumulated there. Although "seeing the nature of mind as it is" is explained in the realization of simplicity, because there is "separation" and "attainment" and "alternating abidance" there, there are also situations where karma accumulates on one's own continuum. Even when the realization of one taste is attained, it is said that the confused appearance of habits arises, and because these arise, karma is also accumulated. Therefore, as long as there is clinging in the mind, karma will be accumulated. The Ratnavali states: "As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, at that time there is the arising of self-grasping. Because there is self-grasping, there is also karma. From karma, there is rebirth in various existences." Je Gampopa also said: "Until the root peg of clinging is severed, at that time there are thoughts that accumulate karma. Therefore, it is excellent to constantly and without distraction maintain the guard of mindfulness." In this way, the clinging of the mind has subtle and coarse aspects, and karma is accumulated accordingly. Moreover, until all appearances are realized as illusion, there is the cause and effect of clinging, that is, the cause and effect of accumulating habits. Even if it is realized, but until it is brought to completion, there is the cause and effect of mere appearance, that is, the cause and effect like illusion. Je Gampopa said: "The dividing line between the existence and non-existence of cause and effect is: until the meaning of the nature of reality is realized and appearances are not realized as illusion, there is the cause and effect of clinging. When the true meaning of the nature of reality is realized and appearances are realized as illusion, but until familiarity is brought to completion, there is the cause and effect of mere appearance. In short, until the Dharmakaya is realized, there is cause and effect. After the Dharmakaya is realized, there is no name for cause and effect." Some think like this:

Furthermore, the noble ones have completely abandoned the suffering of illness, death, and old age. As it is said, one becomes a noble one by realizing emptiness. If someone therefore thinks that one has newly (691) become a Sopa ethnicity, that is because they are confused about the distinction between abandoning suffering and having abandoned suffering. If one is accustomed to emptiness, the gross clinging to reality will disappear, so one will not create extremely heavy karma. But until the habitual tendencies are not purified, one will still create subtle karma like illusions. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: 'Because of familiarity with the habit of emptiness, the habit of reality will be abandoned, and if it is said that everything is nothing, this will also be abandoned later.' It also says: 'Even from an illusory woman, attachment can arise, that is, for the knower of phenomena, who has not abandoned the habitual tendencies of afflictions. Therefore, seeing that, one should know that, the habit of emptiness is very weak.' Like this. The above explained the way in which realization arises and the common characteristics of the four yogas. Next, the third part is to explain the differences of each of the four yogas separately. Among them are divided into the reasons for the differences in the four yogas and the explanation of the differences (692) themselves. The first part is: dividing the four yogas separately into twelve types, although it does not appear in the writings of Dakpo Rinpoche nowadays, it seems to exist in the oral tradition. In the oral teachings given to Gomtsul, there is a saying that the four yogas are divided into superior, medium, and inferior. Phagmo Drupa also divides them into small, medium, and large respectively. These have been gradually passed down, and are very famous among Gya Re and his disciples. The disciples of Rangjung Dorje, especially the Khachöpa, divided the yogas into twelve types, and further divided them into twenty-four types according to the differences in experience and realization. Therefore, the Kagyu lineage is very famous nowadays, and it is very helpful for the level of practice experience and realization and distinction, which is amazing. Among them, the way in which Phagmo Drupa divides the yogas into twelve types (693) seems to be more famous, and the way is: the small of one-pointedness is seeing the nature of mind abiding in clarity; the medium is gaining freedom over that samadhi; the large is that experience pervading the surroundings; the small of simplicity is one's own mind.
