Furthermore, the "cutting off the source of disease" in the middle refers to examining the source of the disease, the colors and shapes of the three places (location, environment, and time); and finally, "transforming disease into the path" refers to when one is sick, grasping the sickness as the mind, and understanding the mind and consciousness as unborn like the sky, which are all said to be largely in agreement. However, here, the causes and conditions of the disease, the symptoms, etc., are not examined in terms of the source, the three places, etc. Without getting caught up in attachment, aversion, acceptance, or rejection of the disease, the pain and the naked sensations of body and mind are recognized as they are, and this is entrusted as the key point of meditation. Without manipulating or adulterating it with thoughts of acceptance or rejection, it is maintained in a clear and vivid state. Sometimes, the self-grasping of the one who is sick, the one who is in pain, the one who is experiencing (649), etc., is investigated, and one rests in that unaltered state where the essence cannot be identified. If treatment is needed, it should be done as mentioned above. Ultimately, without hoping for recovery or despairing of not recovering, one should resolve to remain in great equanimity. Nowadays, in order to bring disease under the control of the path, some people deliberately induce pain by maintaining the vajra posture for a long time, or by creating various diseases in the body in other ways, and then transform these diseases into the path for practice. In this way, if the key point of practicing on disease is not grasped and the practice is prolonged, eventually the pain and self-grasping will not need to be regarded as enemies or things to be abandoned, but will appear as meditation. And it is believed that the harmony of the four elements, the healing of the disease, and the progress of practice will occur simultaneously. Here, it is said that abandoning medical treatment for disease through equanimity (650) is in accordance with the meaning of equanimity that ultimately abandons hope and fear, and it is also the practice of the great accomplished ones. It is said that many major illnesses of masters such as Jigten Sumgön and Götsangpa were cured solely through equanimity. However, nowadays, transforming physical illness into spiritual practice is a characteristic of yogis. In order to accomplish enlightenment, one should not rely on foolish methods that are neither dead nor alive. Therefore, on the conventional level, one should adopt methods of internal healing and rely on dependent origination. On the ultimate level of wisdom, practice that abandons hope and fear is in accordance with the meaning and is considered reasonable. Sixth, whatever happens in this life is the conceptual thought of arising conditions.

Transforming all appearances into virtuous practice and cultivating familiarity with it, especially becoming accustomed to the stages of falling asleep and taking luminosity as the path. Just as a calf follows its mother, death will easily be brought under control (651). Therefore, now strive to transform all the distinctions of thoughts and appearances, whether agreeable or disagreeable, clear or unclear, into the path. When death truly arrives and becomes the crucial moment for practice, abandon attachment to home, possessions, and everything else. If wealthy, make offerings that please the lama, offer tormas that please the yidam, dakinis, and dharma protectors. Hold tsokhors and make offerings that please vajra brothers and sisters. Abandon all negative environmental factors, and properly arrange all auspicious coincidences. When the time comes, adjust the body posture, such as the lion's posture or the squatting posture. Visualize the lama on the crown of your head, generate strong devotion, and enter into the practice of taking death as the path. Among these, what needs to be taken as the path is: recognizing the strong attachment to this life and separating from it, and the thoughts of death accompanied by suffering, that feeling of coldness in the heart. Also, all the experiences and appearances of the stages of dissolution, such as the four elements and appearances (652), need to be transformed into the path in sequence. The method of transformation is: do not generate aversion or hatred towards these experiences, do not cling to the self-grasping of "this is what, that is what," and if you have hope or doubt about whether you can realize luminosity, these hopes and doubts will become obstacles to taking the path. First, simply recognize these thoughts and experiences, and then regard whatever arises as an opportunity for virtuous practice, do not interfere with it with conceptual thoughts, maintain non-attachment, and so on, as described earlier in sequence. Regarding this point, it is also said in the Mahayana Mind Training teachings: Regarding the transference of consciousness at the time of death, although there are many exaggerated instructions, there is nothing deeper than maintaining awareness without attachment to whatever arises. Having done this, after the completion of the stages of dissolution, the natural luminosity and the spontaneously arising luminosity, and (653) the mother and child luminosities transformed into the path through practice, merge like water poured into water, or like the sky merging with the sky, it is said that one will attain Buddhahood in the Dharmakaya. The tantra says: Death is called conceptual thought, it will lead to the abode of the dakinis. In an instant, differences arise. In an instant
