In short, practitioners should engage in secret conduct in a way that does not contradict the precepts and is in accordance with the meanings of Samantabhadra, Non-elaboration, Utter Non-elaboration, and Complete Victory. As for the location, the outer and inner conditions are not complete when practicing in places such as monasteries and villages where people feel comfortable. Because in those places, strong thoughts and afflictions do not arise in the mind. If thoughts and afflictions do not arise, it is difficult to integrate practice into the path of Mahamudra. Most of the time, people become lazy and negligent, and the mind becomes lax. Even if they practice for many years, or even a lifetime, it is difficult to encounter the right opportunity. If life is comfortable, practice becomes easy, but if afflictions arise, one will fall into ordinariness. Therefore, in order to improve the effectiveness of practice, it is better to combine practice with adversity and engage in secret conduct for a month in dangerous rocky places than to practice for three years in villages and monasteries. Therefore, one should go to the terrifying mountain peaks or quiet mountain forests, dangerous places where non-humans manifest their powers, terrifying cemeteries with corpses and bones, under solitary trees occupied by nagas and tsan, and empty cities and crossroads where pretas and ghosts gather, preceded by the offering of Kusulu, cutting off ordinary speech, and entering into practice. As for the confidence to enter practice, the former Kadampa masters believed that five conditions were necessary for going to the mountain forest: pure morality without inner or outer distinction, the ability to overcome obstacles with antidotes, mastery of key instructions, sufficient faith, and the ability to eliminate minor harm with power. Gampopa believed that four kinds of confidence were needed: confidence in obtaining key instructions, confidence in obtaining power, confidence in obtaining experience, and confidence in obtaining view. The great accomplished Zhang said, "Having mastered the treasury of key instructions, being invincible to inner and outer demonic forces, having pure morality without inner or outer distinction, etc., after possessing a hundred conditions, one can go to the mountain forest alone." It's like what he said. There are five actual conducts, one of which is the conduct like a wild animal.

It is like a female deer that does not associate with other companions and does not focus on anything, but dwells alone in the wild. One does not focus on the desires of this life, such as killing enemies, inheriting descendants, and catering to patrons and maintaining face, and one abandons companions and practices alone. The behavior of a lion is: (626) Just as a lion does not feel fear towards any group of wild animals and beasts of prey. One has no fear in one's heart for anything, such as external others and non-humans, and internal obstacles caused by the agitation of thoughts. The behavior like the wind in the sky is: Just as the wind in the sky itself does not get entangled with anything and flows freely without obstruction. One has no attachment or clinging to anything such as body, enjoyment, happiness, fame, etc., and one completely lets go of the mind. The behavior like the sky is: Just as the sky has no support, one does not establish the mind's support on the objects of the mind, such as "to do this, to do that," and on the objects of form and formlessness. The behavior like a madman is: Just as a madman's mind has no attachment to anything, one has no clinging to acceptance and rejection, etc., for anything good or bad. In this way, through the five behaviors, one transforms any adverse conditions that appear internally and externally into the path, (627) and it is believed that one can excavate the true nature. Second, what needs to be transformed into the path here are the grasping and clinging thoughts that are obscured by ignorance, because this is the cause of falling into samsara. As it is said in the Manifestation of Enlightenment: "Thoughts are great ignorance, and are the cause of falling into samsara." If one does not let thoughts run wild, but transforms them into the path through pith instructions, then they will appear as the nature of wisdom, thereby eliminating samsara. As it is said in the Two Examinations Sutra: "With thoughts, eliminate thoughts, with existence, eliminate existence." And as the Great Brahmin said: "Thoughts are great wisdom, and are the driers of the ocean of samsara." And as Naropa Maitri said: "Thoughts are self-liberated, and are great wisdom." It's like that. So, since it was enough to recognize thoughts as the Dharmakaya before, why is it necessary to transform them into the path again? (628) If someone thinks like this, for some sudden enlighteners, that is enough to liberate them at all times.
