If not, everything is equality. If you understand it that way, meditation will not be interrupted. And so on, he said a lot, and if you want to be more detailed, you should look at "Revealing the Hidden Meaning." Fifth, mixing day and night into the cycle: The meditation cycle described above mixes the equal and subsequent of the day. It should also be mixed into the night. For this, the way to maintain equality and subsequence is mostly as described before. But in this case of recitation (la bzla), if you are too attached to remembering, it will cause obstacles, and there is a danger of attachment to it. Therefore, when you remember, you should abandon all desires, and do not even have the intention of wanting to let go, but maintain equality without distinction of equal and subsequent (614) in the manner of effortless, unconstructed, completely relaxed, and completely meditative. As Je Zhang said: When meditating on Mahamudra, do not cling to the thought of "I should do this." There is no beginning, middle, or end. When you remember, just let go. It's like that. If you do that, will you become scattered because you lose your memory and cannot meditate? Don't worry. In general, letting go at the time of remembering is a memory that destroys attachment. And staying in a state free from attention is the correct memory of reality as it is, so it is far superior to forced memory and attached memory. As Shawa Rawa said: For the Mahamudra that does not pay attention, because there is nothing to meditate on, one does not meditate. Non-meditation is inseparable from meaning, and is the supreme state of meditation. It's like that. However, even if the subsequent wisdom (rjes shes) is occasionally distracted, it is enough to recognize the reality of those things as long as the subsequent memory can grasp them. If the subsequent wisdom is interrupted, it is included in the fusion of equality and subsequence. Like this, it is called the meditation cycle (615). Similarly, to mix the day cycle into the night, when starting to fall asleep, first, with effort, one should fall asleep in the state of that daytime virtue, free from all attention. If this transforms sleep and dreams into the path, that is the best, but this is only possible, and rarely happens in this case. Even if you lose your memory in sleep and your dreams become confused, it is enough to recognize the reality of those things as soon as you wake up. This is also called integrating into the cycle of day and night. As stated in the replies of Lord Gampopa: If memory does not grasp, then what

If it doesn't arise, when thoughts arise naturally, will they be caught by mindfulness, and will the previous thoughts disappear or not? Please tell me, is it necessary to hold onto the state between arising and not arising with mindfulness? The answer is: natural thoughts that are not caught by mindfulness will dissipate before they are caught by mindfulness. It is not necessary to hold onto the state between arising and not arising with mindfulness. (616) However, if you can prevent your attention from being distracted by mindfulness, it will be helpful for the union of shamatha and vipassana. Even if it is not caught by mindfulness, thoughts will not cause harm, obscuration, or obstruction. It is said that it will absolutely not. Also, during sleep and dreams, it is sufficient for the clear light to be naturally present. When you look at the state that was not caught by mindfulness after waking up, have faith that it is also nothing other than clear light, just like the continuation of a river. It is said to be so. Like this, in these situations, there are many questions and answers that dispel doubts. If there is a great deal of gain and loss in mindfulness and distraction, it is because you have not yet realized the nature of the mind and the continuous reality, so you need to increase the practice of settling the mind a little. As Lord Gampopa said: In the time of distraction, the self-nature of delusion appears. In the time of mindfulness, it seems to obtain the essence from elsewhere. If someone does not understand these two situations, it is because they do not understand the Dharma. I do not understand the gains and losses of meditation. If there is duality, then you must understand the principle of acceptance and rejection (617). If you want to eliminate duality, that itself is a mistake. It is also said: What is gained by mindfulness and what is lost by distraction, although there is attachment in consciousness, in reality there is no gain or loss. It's like that. If you have certainty about the meaning of these practices of settling the mind, then do not engage in any actions with signs or conceptualization, just relax in the state of settling the mind for about five times. Then rest for about a day, relaxing as you please. Then alternate between settling the mind and resting for about seven or ten days. Until the realization of reality does not disappear during the day. If you enter into worldly activities during the day, then get used to it through habit, so that it will gradually appear at night as well. It is said that when you are very familiar with it, day and night will completely merge. The necessity of settling the mind is that in order to break all attachments to duality, such as the object of meditation and the meditator, the object of experience and the experiencer, the object of realization and the realizer, and attachments to emptiness, etc., so as to completely let go on the basis of (618) reality. For people of superior and middling faculties, according to their respective situations, the realization of reality that is separate from dualistic attachment will arise. The way it arises is through practice.
