of its own nature. The environment for meditation. It is necessary to generate a definitive understanding that is decisive in not deviating from meditation. At this time, some people, due to excessive suppression of mental activity, cause their calm abiding to become empty and stagnant. Others experience wind-mind becoming entangled within, leading to unpleasant experiences and the suffering of mental constriction. For this, various methods of dispelling sadness should be employed, and the mind's conceptual activity should be temporarily released as needed, allowing for rest. If a flawless experience arises, it should be allowed to flow freely for several days. Occasionally, observe whether the mind is in a state of non-meditation. If distraction and sleep, etc., are recognized as non-meditation (609), then the essence and nature of these non-meditative states should be re-examined to realize their true nature. Regarding this meaning, the Great Brahmin said: Meditating on the spontaneously arising wisdom that is beyond thought, Is to have meditated on all fruits completely. And: If the mind without activity does not seek anything, Then there is no need to seek qualities, and it is free from its opposites. Since it cannot be found in all the tantras and treatises, The mind without desire is free from the impurity of cause. And: The essential mind is free from faults and qualities. For this meaning, no action is necessary, The mind that has abandoned action is the greatest bliss. And: If the mind becomes non-mind, Then one will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. And: When the mind is unmoving and stable in its own place, Then one will be naturally liberated from the objects of samsara. And: Seeing, hearing, touching, and remembering (610), Eating, smelling, wandering, walking, and sitting, Idle chatter, speaking, and responding, If known as mind, it does not move from the nature of oneness. There are many such scriptural quotations. Shawa Ri said: All phenomena of samsara and nirvana, Because of seeing their lack of inherent existence, The thoughts of hope and doubt are exhausted, What need is there for the effort of abandoning and adopting? And: Alas! In the yoga of non-dual co-emergence, What is there to abandon and adopt? I have neither grasped nor abandoned all phenomena, Therefore, I do not tell you, "Do this." And: Birwapa said: Because there is no object to be realized and no subject to realize, it is free from partiality and extremes.

Now, abiding in the natural state of equality, if you realize it definitively like that, there is no need to ask others. Since various things are clear as the Dharmakaya, the mind of acceptance and rejection does not arise. Since there is no meditation or non-meditation, there is no defilement by characteristics. Appearance and non-appearance never (611) rely on objects. Without the mind of doing and acting, one is separated from all objects of focus. Without hope and doubt, one turns away from all attachments. Thus, if one is free from all mental fabrication, there is no stainless doubt. When knowledge and the object of knowledge are pure, the nature of reality manifests directly. Thus, the ultimate true nature is the meaning of Dharmata, which should be practiced: without abandoning, without accomplishing, without attachment, without practicing, without obstructing. To practice according to one's own system as one pleases is the supreme and excellent. Thus it is said. Tilopa said: The mind is neither fabricated nor unfabricated. Know that the original mind has nothing to do with the mind. Thus it is said. Do not think, do not ponder, do not investigate, do not meditate, do not act, do not hope, do not doubt. Without clinging to it, the activities of the mind that grasps dissolve in their own place. On the original nature of reality, one arrives by that. Thus it is said. When desire arises, the clear light is obscured and not seen. Protecting and guarding with conceptual thoughts, the samaya is lost from its meaning. Do not think in the mind, separate from all desires. Self-born, self-pacified, like the waves of water. If one does not abide (612) and does not focus, and does not deviate from the meaning, then the samaya is not broken, it is the lamp in the darkness. If one is free from all desires and does not abide at the extremes, then all the teachings of the Tripitaka will be seen. Thus, there are many words of the great accomplished ones. Lord Gampopa also said: Without doing anything to accept or reject, do not seek the path. Without seeing any result, pacify hope and doubt. With fabricated intellect, clear away the deception of falsehood. Thus it is said. Since the original nature of mind has never existed, then to whom should one ask about the wisdom of abiding and moving? Therefore, all that is done and acted is just like plowing the sky, only exhausting effort. Thus it is said. Letting go without reliance, abandoning mindfulness without grasping, abiding in ordinariness in a state of non-meditation, without a master, whatever is desired is boundless joy. Thus it is said. Without the sustenance of mindfulness, there is no fear of distraction. Without alternating between Shamatha and Vipassana, one is free from the boundaries of sessions. Whatever arises, there is no acceptance or rejection in the realm of Dharma (613). Realize that everything is the root of the lie of fabrication. Thus it is said. If one realizes no-mind, then appearance and existence are free. If there is no calculation, then conceptual thoughts arise and dissolve. Desire
