disappeared. Furthermore, the like-minded Vajra Wisdom said: The experience of bliss not becoming attachment is the desire realm; the experience of clarity not becoming grasping is the form realm; non-conceptuality not becoming mind-made is the formless realm. This is how it is explained. Its implication is that attachment to the experience of bliss, grasping to the experience of clarity, and non-conceptuality becoming mind-made, all cause great faults. Therefore, the non-conceptuality that is not ascertained as unborn, because of it as the cause, the clinging to emptiness arises and becomes a great nihilistic view. Its result is falling into the lower realms, and even without attachment, the mind belonging to the category of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality (579) remains in a state of equanimity, and all the undeclared consciousness becomes a cause for straying into the wrong path. The reason for this has already been stated earlier when eliminating the faults of meditation. Furthermore, Lord Gampopa said: That which is empty of the apprehended and the apprehender of knowable objects, even without attachment, does not see the true meaning. That which meditates without abandoning dualistic grasping, even if experienced, does not see the true meaning. The view without realization, even if it says it is free from extremes, is mind-made. The great meditator who has not made a firm decision, even if the samadhi is good, is the cause of samsara. The Dharma practitioner without compassion, even if he makes effort, is the path of the Hearers. Third, the reason why most of the experiences belonging to the category of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality become stray paths is: The nature of all those experiences is that they are separated from arising and ceasing, and their nature is not ascertainable. Not being ascertained as unborn emptiness, but merely remaining on the conventional level, relying on the connection of the channels, winds, and bindus of the body (580), the habitual appearances that arise cause straying due to the entry of substantial grasping and true clinging. Therefore, by cultivating the continuous remembrance of being certain of the unborn in everything, without the entry of grasping of true clinging, it will not become a stray path. Lord Gampopa said: The three, bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, are made certain to abide in the unborn. If it is not ascertained as unborn, it is called uncertain about appearance, etc., as quoted above. Also, generally speaking, falling into the three realms, the four dhyanas, and the four formless absorptions is straying due to relying on a slight amount of grasping. Falling into the Hearer's vehicle is falling into speculative emptiness. There is no straying in abiding in the nature of non-grasping. And, in general, all straying is straying due to clinging or grasping, so clinging

Having severed all aspects of grasping, without attachment, without clinging, one rests nakedly. (581) Without acceptance or rejection, one rests nakedly. Just like that, resting without artificiality, that is what is labeled as meditation. As it says in the Lamp: If one rests without artificiality in a state of equanimity, then it is merely nominally called meditation. Just as it says. So, is it sufficient to merely ascertain unbornness? Is there absolutely no need for the experience of clarity and non-conceptuality? That is not at all the case. Lord Gampopa said: Without bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, even if one merely ascertains the essence of the unborn mind, Lama Milarepa said: That is that, but it is not that itself. It is a tree, but not a fruit. It is a quality, but not non-conceptuality. Geshe Potowa said: Without renunciation and the imprints of habits, the yogi does not see (reality), like a bee sucking on a flower in the sky. Quoting these words, he said that both realization and experience are necessary. So, how is it? "The view is connected with realization" means that the essence of the mind, the nature of its reality, is not merely fabricated or understood in the mind as being free from extremes or free from elaboration, but rather, through looking with wisdom, nothing can be established as its essence, and one directly realizes that it transcends the realm of speech, thought, knowledge, and expression. "The meditation of the view is connected with experience" means that the meaning of such realization is not merely left in the realm of understanding, but one needs to clearly experience it in awareness. Lord Gampopa also said: In the beginning, when learning, one learns to have clear and vivid awareness. One learns not to be distracted from that awareness. One should make sure that the essence of awareness is never distracted. Once one becomes accustomed to that, one will naturally generate certainty. And also, that clear and vivid awareness is experience. Not being distracted from that is abiding. Seeing with wisdom that nothing can be established as its essence is realization. (583) Such an experience is considered to be the self-experience of realization or the self-experience of essence. The meditation of the inseparability of experience and realization is considered to be free from faults and errors. Lord Gampopa said: So, what is the experience related to meditation? It is called the self-experience of essence. It is called the co-emergent self-experience. It is called the inborn
