Without clinging. For example, like a child's awareness of seeing a temple, a clear and unattached vast mindfulness expands the mind and holds it. In short, it is to maintain the state of the previously introduced co-emergent conceptualization and co-emergent appearance. On this, it is also said in the *Bodhicaryāvatāra*: "As seen, heard, and known, these are not to be refuted here. Here, what is to be refuted is the conceptualization of truth, which is the cause of suffering." This is what is said. Secondly, how does such mindfulness maintain virtue? For example, it should be done like a skilled shepherd herding livestock. He lets the livestock graze freely, but he does not need to bother with leading them by the nose or following them. It is enough to simply watch the livestock in his sight. Similarly, here, it is not necessary to restrain the arising of conceptualizations and appearances, making them stop or become unclear, nor is it like directly suppressing them. Do not follow conceptualizations and appearances and become distracted, losing the power of mindfulness, and engaging in the clinging of negation and affirmation. Do not let conceptualizations and appearances subside on their own, but rather, however the six consciousnesses appear on their respective objects, let the appearance itself remain clear, while having the certainty of not identifying its nature. All conceptualizations are the flow of emptiness, all appearances are the appearance of emptiness, and with unattached mindfulness, naturally maintain them without fabrication (530). As Je Götsangpa said: "Again, when conceptual thoughts arise, do not grasp them tightly with your face, let them relax on their own, there is no doubt that they will be self-liberated. When staring at external objects, your own mind is like an illusion, do not cling to whatever appears, let the intermediate awareness roam freely. The flow is unreal like hail, let it flow without clinging, this is called the arising of conceptual thoughts in meditation. Knowing one's own face is free from acceptance and rejection, there is no practice other than not being distracted, do not be distracted in the state of no practice." Like this, it is said in a way that is both easy to understand and complete in meaning. In this way, in all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, maintain awareness just enough to keep track. For beginners, there may be more distractions at first, but during the meditative state, directly increase the power of mindfulness, and also strive in the post-meditative state.

Through relying on focused mindfulness, generate the mindfulness of strength arising (531), and ultimately, without distraction on most conceptual appearances, clarity-emptiness and appearance-emptiness will vividly manifest. If it is difficult to manifest in this way, even if it is said that attachment to co-emergent conceptual thoughts and co-emergent appearances has been severed, it is still somewhat helpful. Again, from the state of equality of the essence, allow any conceptual thought to arise, and investigate the source of that arising, the three realms, and also observe its essence as much as possible, thereby determining conceptual thoughts and appearances, and cultivate as before. Regarding this meaning, the Great Brahmin said: All phenomena established by the mind are empty of themselves. Because they are devoid of causes, all examinations are non-existent. If one knows the suchness that is liberated in its own nature, there is no seeing, hearing, etc., and it is devoid of its own nature. And: Knowing the suchness that appears as self and other to be one, holding onto it without distraction, (532) since that is the thorn of the mind, even by letting go, one attains happiness through non-attachment. And: Shawa Ras said: Just as various rivers such as the Ganges become one taste in the salty ocean, so too, know all the various minds and mental factors that are examined to be of one taste in the realm of phenomena. And: Birwapa said: Thus, all conventional phenomena that appear and exist are without inherent existence, merely names, merely designations, merely examinations. Thus it is. Thirdly, Jowo Dakpo said that there are three ways to use conceptual thought as a path: meeting and destroying, not chasing after externally, and without transformation. Among these, meeting and destroying refers to those who are slightly accustomed to the post-meditation state. For example, just as when two close friends who have known each other before meet on the road, they recognize each other immediately without needing to discern whether it is them or not, so too, when a conceptual appearance arises, it is liberated in the state of the unborn mind (533) without needing to engage in conceptual analysis. The Great Brahmin said: In front, behind, and in the ten directions, whatever is seen, that is it. And: Whatever emanates from the mind, that is the nature of the protector. Are water and waves different? And: Maitripa said: This nature of the mind, which is the appearance of various things, the Great Seal is not established merely by meeting. Thus it is. Not chasing after externally is:
