Just to avoid losing the way of abiding as it is, other than that, if one uses conceptual thoughts to newly fabricate and practice other things, then all sorts of reasons why that is not in accordance with the meaning of reality have already been explained. Again, to say a little (516), because the reality of mind has no bias, do not practice with closeness or attachment to the appearances of phenomena and empty awareness, etc.; likewise, because the meaning of mind has no determination of anything, do not practice by determining it as right or wrong, acceptance or rejection, etc. Because the meaning of mind has no certainty about anything, do not practice by determining and clinging to letting go and abiding, etc. Because the meaning of mind has no change whatsoever, do not practice by calculating and planning with hopes and fears, etc. Because the meaning of mind has no good or bad, do not practice by fabricating with negation and affirmation. Because the meaning of mind has no good or bad, do not practice by fabricating with negation and affirmation. Because the meaning of mind has no object of focus whatsoever, do not practice by accomplishing with focus and effort. In short, because the reality of mind has nothing to be practiced, do not practice anything at all. If you do practice, no matter what you practice, it is only generating mental activity, focus, characteristics, grasping, and clinging. Those are (517) not in accordance with the correct view and practice of reality. As it says in the sutra, "This practice of the Perfection of Wisdom is not practicing any dharma." And so on. In the Guhyasamaja it says, "Because there is no object, there is no practice. The object to be practiced is not practice. Thus, because of object and non-object, practice has no object." And so on. Gurupa said, "Do not practice emptiness, nor should you practice non-emptiness." And so on. The Great Brahmin said, "Whatever you are attached to, abandon it." And so on. "Whatever you cling to, that clinging obscures liberation." And so on. "If you cherish in your heart a mind that you think is pleasing, even the slightest prick like a sesame seed husk will only ever cause suffering." And so on. Shavaripa said, "In the Great Seal of non-mentation, because there is not a particle to be practiced, do not practice." And so on. Birwapa said, "If you keep the (518) reality in mind and cling to the experience, and focus on that meaning and practice, you are mistaken." And so on. Tailopa said, "Whatever in your mind

Look at the Dharma that is recited without thinking. Maitripa said: From the state of abiding without distraction, there is no need to fabricate body and speech, and there is no meditation. Abiding and not abiding equally, there is no need to fabricate antidotes, and there is no meditation. Thus it is said. Secondly, although there is nothing to meditate on after taming the mind in this way, a non-distracted mindfulness that does not fall into ordinary self-continuum is definitely needed. Even before that mindfulness becomes a habit, there is no slight difference in just not being distracted. Each of the four yogas requires a mindfulness that is not distracted from the meaning of the meditation of its own ground. In this case, it is also necessary not to be distracted from the meaning of the co-emergent nature of mind previously introduced. If that is the case, even a beginner who has not truly cut off the imputation (519) must have a non-distracted experience of his own ground, such as one-pointedness of mind. The Great Brahmin said: Alas! Look at yourself with that very thing indicating to yourself. If the undistracted mind is separated from seeing, the distracted mind will not realize that very thing. In the midst of the thicket of things, that very jewel is lost. Thus it is said. Shavara said: Alas! Look at yourself with an undistracted mind. Thus it is said. Birwapa said: Do not discriminate between existence and non-existence, abide in a state of non-distraction. Thus it is said. Tailopa said: If there is no distraction, it is the king of meditation. Thus it is said. Maitripa said: From the state of abiding without distraction. So it is. Some people with low intelligence may have the appearance of non-distraction, but in reality they do not know that they are distracted. What is this like? Because the reality of the mind is beyond the realm of understanding, they think of a meaning understood by intellect and thought (520), but in reality they are slightly distracted. Similarly, because the meaning of mind is beyond knowledge, they understand it with intellect and thought, and think of the meaning of knowledge, but in reality they are slightly distracted. The meaning of mind is not an object of thought, so they think with intellect and thought, and think of emptiness and non-arising, etc., but in reality they are slightly distracted. The meaning of mind is not an object of focus, so they focus on the experience of bliss, clarity, and non-thought, etc., which are specifically focused on by intellect and thought, but in reality they are slightly distracted. In short, the reality of mind is
