It is unparalleled. (End) "Abiding in one's own nature" means to leave the mind's nature or the way it abides as it is, without any modification. Otherwise, the meaning of reality will be tainted by mental fabrications. On this, the Great Brahmin said, "Abiding in one's own nature is just as it is, without any karmic bond, abiding in its own nature from the beginning." He also said, "Do not defile the pure mind of its own nature with meditative thoughts. Abide in the bliss of yourself, and do not cause suffering." Also, Shavara said, "The pure mind of its own nature does not need to be modified. Do not grasp or abandon, leave it in its own state." Also, Birwapa said, "The true reality, the meaning of non-attachment, should be practiced. Without abandoning or cultivating, without attachment or action, without being tainted, acting according to one's own nature is the most supreme and sacred path." Also, Maitripa said, "Abide in your own nature, without modification, as it is." Such methods of abiding almost contain the essence of focusing on the nature of the mind, and are a wonderful means of establishing the nature of reality. As Tilopa said, "Do not think, do not ponder, do not investigate. Do not meditate, do not act, do not hope or fear. The activities of the mind that grasp there are liberated in their own place. By this, one proceeds upon the original nature of reality." Secondly, in the assembly teachings of Lord Gampopa, it says, "If you look at the essence of your own mind, then the mind should be relaxed and abide, naturally abide, left as it is, and abide loosely." Among the four ways of abiding mentioned, "relaxing and abiding" is a very profound method of cutting through the addition and subtraction of the way the mind abides and its unadulterated essence, if one knows how to relax. Lord Gampopa said, "The best relaxation is the best meditation; the medium relaxation is the medium meditation; the lowest relaxation is the lowest meditation." What is the reason for this? If one does not make any desires on whatever arises in the mind, but relaxes and loosens it in its own way, then all entering consciousnesses will cease, and one will be stunned into non-thought, abiding in its own nature like a fool. At this time, the unlost awareness of unborn knowledge is the very nature of non-differentiation between calm and insight, and is also the meaning of the co-emergent mind nature. The great accomplished Shang said, "When awareness is relaxed and loosened, the experience of clarity and non-thought appears like the center of a pure sky. This is the clear light Dharmakaya."

Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Great Brahmin said: The very mind bound by ropes, If released, there is no doubt of liberation. Thus it is said. If the mind is bound, it becomes bound, If that itself is released, there is no doubt. Whatever the fool is bound by, The wise are completely liberated by that. Thus it is said. Tilopa said: Release and leave it in the uncorrected, natural state. If you release the bondage, there is no doubt of liberation. Thus it is said. The mind is like the center of the sky, beyond the realm of thought. In that state, without abandoning or grasping, release and leave it. If the mind has no object of reliance, it is the Great Seal. If you become accustomed and familiar with it, you will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Thus it is said. Leaving it as it is means to abide equally in the original state, That is, the mind-essence introduced by the guru, the co-emergent essence or nature, is originally free from elaboration and without any grasp, and to leave that in its own state. (509) For example, like gold dust, just as it is in its original form, without being altered by melting or hammering. In some places, it is said to leave it without hesitation, like putting a bird in wine, and in others, it is said to leave it uncorrected. Regarding this, the Great Brahmin said: Whatever that which is separated from the root is thought of, It is enough for those who have obtained the guru's instructions. Thus it is said. Whatever spontaneously arising wisdom that is beyond thought is meditated upon, By that, all the fruits are meditated upon. Thus it is said. Shavara said: When the innate mind is thoroughly trained, At that time, I will enter into realization in the solitary mountains. Thus it is said. Birwapa said: Since it is co-emergent from the beginning, there is no need to seek it from elsewhere. The mind-essence is empty of names, free from elaboration, the Great Seal. Thus it is said. Leaving it at ease means leaving the state or manner of abiding of the mind as it is, in its own way, as it is comfortable. If it is bound by (510) fixation or desire, it will become very unruly. For example, if a person is imprisoned, he is with the thought of escaping, but if he is left at ease, he will abide in his own way as he is comfortable. Regarding this, the Great Brahmin said: Those who are bound strive to go in all ten directions. If released, they will abide unmoving and stable. I understand it to be like a stray camel. Thus it is said, which is similar in meaning to the above-mentioned abiding in its own nature. Leaving it freely means regarding the right and wrong, good and bad, etc., of the mind.
