Being single-mindedly focused and equally abiding. Thus, the nine states of mind are explained, and their recognition will be explained during the discussion of tranquility. As for the divisions of insight, the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* states: "Lord, how many kinds of insight are there? Maitreya, there are three kinds: insight arising from signs, insight arising from thorough investigation, and insight arising from individual discrimination." Thus, the three types of insight, such as insight arising from signs, are taught. Their (51) recognition is also found in the same text: "What is insight arising from signs? It is the insight that focuses solely on the image, which is the object of concentration and is accompanied by conceptualization." "What is insight arising from thorough investigation? It is the insight that focuses on those very dharmas that have not been thoroughly understood by wisdom, in order to thoroughly understand them." "What is insight arising from individual discrimination? It is the insight that focuses on those very dharmas that have been thoroughly understood by wisdom, in order to experience bliss through liberation." So it is said. The *Abhidharmasamuccaya* states: "What is insight? It is as follows: discriminating dharmas, thoroughly discriminating, completely conceptualizing, and completely analyzing (52), being the antidote to negative states and signs, liberating from perversion, and for the sake of settling the mind on what is not perverse." Thus, the four types of insight are taught: insight that discriminates dharmas, insight that thoroughly discriminates, insight that completely conceptualizes, and insight that completely analyzes. Their recognition is found in the *Śrāvakabhūmi*: "What are the four types of insight? Here, a monk, relying on the tranquility of his inner mind, discriminates dharmas, thoroughly discriminates, completely conceptualizes, and completely analyzes. How does he discriminate? He discriminates by as much as there is of the object of purifying investigation, the object of the wise, and the object of purifying afflictions. As much as there is in accordance with reality, that is how he thoroughly discriminates. Wisdom (53) and
