Considering that there is Buddha-nature, it is said in the King of Tantras: All sentient beings are Buddhas; there is no other great Buddha in this world. And, in those minds, those people will also become the lords of the victors; what can other victors do? And, in the 'Two Examinations,' it is said: Sentient beings are indeed Buddhas, but they are obscured by sudden defilements. If those are removed, they are indeed Buddhas. And, in the Samputa, it is said: The Buddha dwells in one's own body; where else is there a Buddha? People are troubled by the obscurations of the darkness of the body, and they desire the Buddha outside the body. (115) And so on, most of the tantras say that sentient beings have Buddha-nature. How is it said in the treatises? In the 'Mahayana Uttaratantra Shastra,' it is said: Impure, impure and pure, pure, and extremely pure, are called sentient beings, Bodhisattvas, and Tathagatas, in that order. And, the essence is shown by three names in three states. And so on, it is extensively explained by combining nine metaphors and meanings. Its meaning is this: The state where the Buddha-nature is not at all defiled by impurities is called sentient beings from the perspective of the support; the state that has both purity and impurity is called Bodhisattva; the state of extreme purity is called Tathagata, and this is named from the perspective of the support. From the perspective of the Dharma-nature, the first is called the basis of the realm of sentient beings, the middle is called the path, and the last is called the fruit. If it is said that it is permissible to say so for the former and the latter, but it is not permissible to say so for the middle, then it is indeed very permissible. (116) In the 'True Name Scripture,' it is also correctly said: Showing the aspect of the net of illusion, this is the pure and excellent path. Because the net of illusion expressed by the name-phrase, or pervades like space, these three states also transform into the three: basis, path, and fruit. For example, when learning letters and paintings, the letters and paintings themselves become the path, just as learning and familiarizing oneself with the Buddha, Prajnaparamita, and Vajra Yoga, the Buddha, Prajnaparamita, and Vajra Yoga themselves are the path.

Thus it is said, "The path of omniscience." And it is said, "This is the path of all perfections, not another." And it is said, "The profound path of Vajra Yoga." In the commentary on the Mother, 'Breaking the Vessel,' it is also said, "Both are completely distinguished by the perfect purity of the Dharmadhatu. There is no difference between Bodhi and the path, but in the earlier stage it is called the path because it is the cause, and in the later stage it is called Bodhi." Thus it is said. Thus, Lord Maitreya and the master and disciple Asanga, relying on the sutras cited above (117), explained them as the definitive meaning. The great Brahmin Sarahah also said, "The mind alone is the seed of all things, in which the flow of existence and sorrow arises, which grants the desired fruit, I prostrate to the mind like a wish-fulfilling jewel." And he said, "The wise explain all the treatises, but do not realize that the Buddha is in the body. Like an elephant being trapped, the mind being bound, that one cuts off coming and going and finds rest. If one realizes this, there is nowhere to seek. The wise are shameless, therefore they do not realize it." And he said, "This unsurpassed essence, the Great Vehicle path, taking the fruit as the path, abides primordially in the fruit." And he said, "The fruit is unobstructed, abiding primordially in itself." Thus it is said. In the Praise of Dharmadhatu by the noble Nagarjuna, it is said, "That which is not fully known, revolves in the three realms, constantly abiding in all sentient beings, I prostrate to the Dharmadhatu." And it is said, "That which becomes the cause of samsara, having purified that, that purity is Nirvana, (118) that is also the Dharmakaya." And it is said, "Just as when milk and water are mixed, the essence of butter does not appear, so when afflictions are mixed with the Dharmakaya, it is not seen. Just as when milk is completely refined, the essence of butter becomes stainless, so when afflictions are completely purified, the Dharmadhatu becomes extremely pure." And it is said, "Just as a lamp is inside a vase, it cannot appear even a little, so when afflictions are inside a vase, the Dharmadhatu is not seen. From whatever direction the vase is pierced, from that very direction, the nature of light arises."
