Because the Buddha has passed into Nirvana, being pure, eternal, and the basis of virtue. Just as fire purifies clothes stained with various impurities, if they are put into the fire, the impurities are burned away while the clothes remain. Similarly, the mind of clear light, stained with desire and other impurities, burns away the impurities with the fire of wisdom, therefore the clear light does not cease to exist. Thus it is said. Machig Labdrön says on the twentieth [page]: If one does not realize that one is originally a Buddha, then this newly created Buddha will not come about either. Thus it is said. Furthermore, when explaining the meaning of the name in "Stainless Light," it says: Among these paths of the Hearers, the Paramita, and the Mantrayana, the most supreme and unchanging essence, the Bhagavan Vajradhara, is what the Tathagata taught in the "Namasangiti." Those who do not understand this meaning, who are not true lamas, those who have lost the most supreme and unchanging wisdom, will appear in the future, and those who are completely lost will cause sentient beings to be lost as well. Thus it is said. The meaning of this is: Those who consider the Tathagatagarbha as something to be led are those who have lost the correct view. Those who are completely lost say that the Buddha is a Buddha produced on the path, therefore is created. They say that sentient beings do not have an inherent Tathagatagarbha. They believe that all knowledge is pervaded by the created, therefore Prajnaparamita, omniscience, wisdom, and valid cognition cannot possibly be uncreated. They use this dross of view to slander the ultimate truth, thereby causing sen-(122)tient beings to be lost from the correct path. Therefore, those who consider the ultimate tantras, deities, and Buddhas to be created, and those mantrikas and Paramita practitioners who consider the Svabhavikakaya not to be a Buddha, are no different from shepherds who spend their lives herding sheep without recognizing them. Here it is said: A skillful captain, takes jewels from the other side of the ocean. A few fortunate ones, seek Indian scholars from the midst of the snowy mountains. Some poor people, do not see the jewels buried beneath their own homes. People without discernment, even near the wise, do not see. With the wisdom of understanding this text,

Appeared. The sun's mandala blazes with light, all things appear, behold! This is called the intermediate verse. Second, stating the certainty of the eleven sections: First, explaining the causes and conditions, and how the body is formed from the womb, and the explanation of the channels of that body, and how the winds abide and move, and how the bindu moves, and the meaning related to consciousness and so on, and applying these to the outer vessel (123), and which are the deities to be generated, and teaching the basis of practice, and teaching the stages of the path, and how these decay and are gathered up, should be explained as taught by the Victorious One.
