As it is said with certainty. Here, speaking from the four states, first, during deep sleep, among the eight consciousnesses, the ālaya-vijñāna is the main one, and its location is in the heart, at the wheel of Dharma. The nature of the ālaya is that the activity of the six consciousnesses is not clear, and it is merely a concentration of awareness. This is the state of sentient beings, and when this state is completely purified, it will manifest the result of clear light. Therefore, it is also called the Mirror-like Wisdom. Some tantras say that this is the nature of the Dharmakāya, free from elaboration, and is the nature of the Dharmadhātu Wisdom. If this is established as the Dharmadhātu Wisdom, then the state of arising is established as the Mirror-like Wisdom; if this is established as the Mirror-like Wisdom, then the state of arising must be established as the Dharmadhātu Wisdom. What are the faults of obscuring wisdom in the state of deep sleep? The ālaya in that state acts as a basis for karmic imprints, but the aspects of the objects are not clear, and because there is a cause for the movement of the mind of volition, it is conditioned. The impure state, its nature is ignorance, therefore it is called defiled. So, if the ālaya-vijñāna is what is to be abandoned, what kind of antidote should be used to purify it? This should be explained in conjunction with the way the three vehicles attain their results. That is, in the Śrāvakayāna path, as an antidote to the four inversions of clinging to the five skandhas such as form as permanent, pleasurable, self, and pure, one meditates on the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. At the end of the continuum of the path of seeing and the path of meditation of the Śrāvakas, the wisdom that realizes the single selflessness of the person is called the Vajra-like Samādhi. It destroys the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of meditation of the Śrāvakas, and it cannot be destroyed by afflictions. Relying on the Vajra-like Samādhi, the result of the Śrāvaka Arhat is manifested. (516) On top of that, in the Pratyekabuddhayāna path, because one realizes the selflessness of phenomena, the path of seeing and the path of meditation of the Pratyekabuddhayāna are distinguished by one and a half selflessnesses.

That ultimate continuum is called the Vajra-like Samadhi, and the Vajra-like Samadhi of the ultimate continuum of the Great Vehicle path, which is distinguished by the two selflessnesses, and these three are, in order, the wisdom of the antidote. By this, each purifies the defilements of their own share, and having completely destroyed the defilements to be abandoned by each of the three vehicles, they attain the completely pure fruit, namely the two Arhats of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the three Arhats of the Great Vehicle, it is said. Furthermore, the Vajra-like Samadhi of the ultimate continuum of the Great Vehicle directly abandons the Alaya-consciousness, while the two Lesser Vehicles abandon it indirectly, not directly. This is because the two Lesser Vehicles do not truly posit the Alaya-consciousness, because one can attain one's own Bodhi without seeing the Alaya-consciousness. As it is said in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle: "The Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, without seeing the Alaya-consciousness, also completely accomplish their own Nirvana, the Alaya-consciousness is not taught in their treatises." Bodhisattvas engage in all knowable objects, therefore, the Alaya-consciousness is taught as the basis of the knowable objects. So it is said. In the Secret Mantra, the Alaya is seen in clinging and mental isolation, and it is asserted that the Alaya transforms at the culmination of Samadhi and Clear Light. Thus, when the Alaya transforms, having completely abandoned the dependent afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations, one directly realizes omniscience, which is definitely accomplished by this very Vajra-like Samadhi. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Having obtained that which is indestructible by conceptual thought, reaching the ultimate state of transformation, stainless from all obscurations, and abiding in that which benefits sentient beings, diligently practicing for the sake of benefit, one obtains the unsurpassed state of omniscience." So it is said. The venerable Nagarjuna said: "For those who are weary of the path of existence, the Great Vehicle is taught for the sake of rest, and the great wisdom that arises is also taught (518), but it is not ultimate. As long as the Buddha does not urge them, the real body of wisdom, fainting from the intoxication of Samadhi, the Hearers will abide in that. If urged, then various..."
