That statement does not seem to befit a great scholar. Because the people of the first kalpa had immeasurable lifespans and possessed innate samadhi, their minds were peaceful and gentle, their bodies were radiant, and they did not need food. Moreover, in this Jambudvipa, there were fertile lands like honey and uncultivated crops, etc. (483), but all of these are now gone. Furthermore, the realm of this three-thousand great-thousand world, below the third dhyana, could be destroyed by water, fire, and wind. If so, can Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar be said to remain unchanged? We speak in this way based on reliable scriptural authority. As it is said in the Vinaya-bhaishajyavastu, at the end of the thirty-eighth chapter and in the thirty-ninth chapter: "Then, the Blessed One crossed the Ganges River and, with the gaze of an elephant, looked at the Ganges River from the right side. The monks asked the Blessed One: 'Venerable Blessed One, why did you look at the Ganges River again from the right side?' The Blessed One replied: 'Monks, do you wish to hear the origin of the Ganges River?' The Blessed One said: 'Now is the time, Sugata, now is the time. If the Blessed One would explain the origin of the Ganges River, the monks would listen.'" After this request (484), the Blessed One extensively taught, and I will summarize the essence of it. In the past, there was a Chakravartin king named Smiksbhams. At another time, this king felt distressed upon seeing old people, sick people, and corpses. Then, a Brahmin named Time Measurer said: 'The world enjoys its own fruits, so it is not fitting for the great king to be displeased. Sentient beings who practice virtue will be reborn in the heavens, and Chakravartins are the same, so you will surely be reborn in the heavens in the future. But please perform sacrifices that will become the ladder to the heavens.' After this exhortation, the king dug a pit to pour the juice of impermanent sacrifices.

Having poured milk and cooled it, the lake was named "Anavatapta" (unheated). Having done this for twelve years, the Lunte River flowed from its full mouth, which was said to be called "milk water". It is said that this Ganges River (485) flowing in the sacred land clearly flows from Lake Anavatapta. It is also clear that the other three, such as the Sindhu, also flow from Anavatapta. In the very basis of medicine, the Blessed One and the great Shravaka disciples prophesied the cause of karma. Then, the Blessed One, together with four hundred and ninety-nine Arhats, disappeared from Shravasti and went to the great Lake Anavatapta. Fierce Yakshas dwell, pleasing and adorned with various flowers and trees. From there, these great rivers that flow into the poisonous ocean flow in four directions. The Ganges, Sindhu, as well as Pakshu and Sita, only those who have attained the power of magical abilities can pass, others cannot. There, the Thubpa (Sage) resides with the Sangha. Etc. As the Blessed One generated the worldly mind, in the great Lake Anavatapta, the Naga kings Nanda and Upananda magically created a thousand-petaled lotus, the size of a chariot wheel, made of gold, (486) the stem was a jewel, and the pistil was surrounded by thousands of vajra lotuses, the Blessed One was in the center, and the elders resided in the heart of the other lotuses. From this verse, it can be seen that the dwelling of fierce Yakshas, etc., is a general description of the place. Here, it is said that those who have not obtained the power of magical abilities cannot pass, which refers to the lotus stem in the center of the lake, not that the entire ground is impassable. If that were the case, it should also be said that the Sita River, etc., cannot be passed by people without magical abilities. Furthermore, when praising the central region in many scriptures, it is said that there is the Ganges River, known as a place of auspiciousness, merit, auspiciousness, and purity, with moist banks, called the abode of sages, water...
