‘If someone, among them, has pure faith that all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha (如来藏, tathāgatagarbha, de bzhin gshegs pa'i snying po, Essence of the Thus-Gone), they are repaying the kindness of the Buddha.’ In the *Aṅgulimālīya Sūtra* (指鬘经), it also says: ‘The Tathagatagarbha (如来藏) should not be concealed, but should be diligently taught for the benefit of all sentient beings. By doing so, one will obtain the divine eye and become one with the divine eye in the world.’ It also says: ‘Whoever teaches the Tathagatagarbha (如来藏), whether with or without afflictions, can be called a fully enlightened Buddha.’ It also says: ‘Whoever teaches the Tathagatagarbha (如来藏) is a fully enlightened Buddha.’ And so on. In the *Mahābherī Sūtra* (大鼓经), it also says: ‘Those sentient beings who have faith in other vast dharmas, who desire the great nature of the Tathagata (如来), which is constant, stable, peaceful, and enduring, the Tathagata (如来) bestows upon them the crown of empowerment with the wisdom of all perfections and omniscience.’ It also says: ‘Wherever there is a permanent Buddha, there is the Tathagatagarbha (如来藏).’ Furthermore, it also proclaims not to abandon the firm view, which is not clinging to the aggregates of fear, but understanding that all conditioned phenomena are empty of inherent existence, desiring the most excellent foundation of permanence, and abiding in such qualities, etc. The remaining qualities are inconceivable. ‘I have many disciples who, in the future age and time, will uphold this excellent Dharma.’ Among the eight mentioned earlier in the sutra, such as Bhadrapāla (善护) and Pūrṇa (普覆), the last one is he. ‘Maitreya (弥勒), who is he?’ He is the Licchavi (离车族) youth who is pleasing to see by all the world. In the future, he will become a wise man in the south, beating the drum of Dharma and blowing the conch of Dharma. Thereafter, the Bhagavan (世尊) said to Maitreya (弥勒): ‘Maitreya (弥勒), you cannot be like guarding a field, but like guarding a field, with skillful means, listen to this sutra, remember it in your mind after listening, and manifest it in the world.’ I have placed him on the seventh bhūmi (地), blessed him with miraculous power, and when he is eighty years old, at the time when the teachings are declining, in the south, in a place called Murunda (牟伦陀), a city near the water, the army...’ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A bhikshu (monk) named 'Immovable' (mi tshugs pa zhes bya ba), born into the Kasyapa (kar yo ri zhes bya ba) lineage in a place called 'Great Near Village' (nye ba'i grong phreng ba chen po), will appear and speak my name. He will be skilled in protecting fields, will renounce among my lazy ascetics, and will gather them with the means of gathering wealth, and will find this sutra. Holding it in his body, purifying the sangha (community), first completely abandoning the great foundation that is not suitable, and then proclaiming the great Dharma. He will proclaim the Dharma conch and the Dharma banner of the Dharma spoken from the Great Dharma Drum. Secondly, he will speak of the emptiness of the Mahayana (Great Vehicle) sutras. Thirdly, he will speak of the permanence of the realm of sentient beings and the words of the Great Dharma Drum Sutra. He will beat the Great Dharma Drum, blow the Dharma conch, erect the Dharma banner, and personally wear my robes.' And, if there are sentient beings to be tamed there, he will say to those sentient beings: 'Look at the coming of the Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha.' And he will declare: 'The Tathagata (Thus-Gone One) is permanent, steadfast, peaceful, and truly unchanging, so look at me! Know that the steadfastness and happiness I have shown and spoken of are like that!' Then, from the ten directions in the sky, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, will each show their faces to him and say, 'It is indeed so!' The whole world will also believe in his well-taught Dharma.' And, with the sound of praising the Three Jewels, he will proclaim the secret of the Buddha as follows: 'The Tathagata is permanent, steadfast, peaceful, and truly unchanging.' Thus he proclaims the secret of the Buddha. Also in the Great Cloud Sutra (sprin chen po'i mdo): 'The greatness of the qualities of the Tathagata, whether it is profound, equal, permanent, truly unchanging, steadfast, or the meaning of the name of the sutra being taught, wherever there is true abiding, one should also walk in the middle of the crossroads of the human path.' Other meanings of the Great Cloud Essence (sprin chen snying po), and the purpose of hearing, respecting, painting, offering, and serving, even if entering into a fire filled with worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, one should go. Likewise, in the Noble Sutra Benefiting the Garland of Fingers ('phags pa sor mo'i phreng ba la phan pa), like the Udumbara flower --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
