Sakya Pandita said: If you please the yogis, all good things will be accomplished, and you will be liberated from all evils. Furthermore, it is said in the 'Separation of Empowerment': With the offering of a great feast, if someone makes offerings to the Lama and the Lama's retinue, including all the consorts, even if they please all the Buddhas for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, the merit will not be able to match this. Therefore, after maturing through empowerment, one should listen to the instructions and engage in practice. That is to say, for the empowerment of gradually bestowing instructions, one must first make preliminary preparations. Secondly, regarding the preliminary practice of the specifically designated empowerment, and the method of practicing it, these two. First, one must carefully consider body, speech, and mind, because at this time, it means that one does nothing other than the single focus. Therefore, in terms of body, prostrations and circumambulations are good, killing is bad, and manufacturing is mediocre; in terms of speech, lying is bad, recitation is good, and idle chatter is mediocre; in terms of mind, visualizing the deity is good, greed is bad. Abandoning all the thoughts of welcoming and sending off, one must give up one's life in order to obtain pure Dharma. If you do not give it up, then everything you do will become fuel for samsara. Previously, the yogi Chapa Chokyi at Marmey Dza (place name), vowed to meditate, teach, and communicate wholeheartedly, but he was told to give it up because it was bad behavior. When he asked what he should do, it is said that he was told to give up his life. Therefore, the beginning of Dharma is to give up one's life. Potowa said: When stretching out sounds, it is difficult to make the sound 'O' at first, but once it is made, it becomes easy. Similarly, it is difficult to give up one's life at the beginning of practicing Dharma, but once it is given up once, it becomes easy thereafter. The Buddha said: If you want all happiness, you should completely abandon all desires. If you completely abandon all desires, you will attain supreme happiness. So, how should one give up one's life? One must rely on the four places of reliance, the three vajras, and the three attainments, which are the ten root treasures of a practitioner. Merely keeping these in mind can collapse the journey of afflictions, sink the ship of bad karma, and reach the flat and blissful land of antidotes, so without effort, all the benefits and happiness of this life and the next will be accomplished.

Then, on a comfortable cushion, upon a seat endowed with celibacy, with the master's instructions, one should straighten the body well. Thus, if dependent arising is arranged on the body, realization will arise in the mind. In the past, the Buddha Bhagavan laid down kusha grass as a seat, and through the dependent arising of enlightenment, the inside of the grass was made pure, so one must abide on such a seat. The 'Excellent Collection' says: "On a seat endowed with celibacy." If it accords with this, it is auspicious. The key points of the body are: Generally, there are seven dharmas for meditation, but here, when contemplating impermanence and suffering, abiding in the mudra of sorrow is auspicious due to dependent arising. Legs crossed in the lotus position, hands crossed in front, or the body in a horse-riding posture, with the right knee slightly raised, the elbow propped on it, the palm supporting the cheek, and the left hand placed on the chest or waist. Having the key points of the body and so on, the 'three days' refers to having already arisen in the continuum, so it is intended as an elucidation of the meaning. In general, one should contemplate until impermanence has arisen in the continuum, because this is the iron anchor of diligence in the Dharma. Second, contemplating the outer vessel world and meditating on impermanence, contemplating the inner sentient beings and meditating on impermanence, contemplating that there is no benefit whatsoever and meditating on impermanence, contemplating that there is no fixed time and meditating on impermanence, and the extent to which it arises in the continuum, and its necessity or qualities, there are five (perhaps six, to be examined). First, the outer vessel... impermanence. Thus, contemplating for a long time, the outer vessel world from the time of the formation of the first kalpa, in the realm of empty space, the form of a vajra cross of wind, and above it a peaceful, clear, and pure round ocean, and above that a powerful golden earth, square, with boundaries, within which from the essence of rain falling from the sky, represented by the four continents, eight subcontinents, Mount Meru, sun and moon, etc. Below the thirty-three abodes of the desire realm, and above the hells, the vessel world is solid and dense, a hundred billion three-thousand great thousand worlds are formed, these also change impermanently in a subtle instant. The coarse ones are constantly impermanent, by seven fires and one water...
