Because it is easy to understand that it is not owned by another, and it is the receiver of happiness and suffering. Because it is all minds that experience the cause and effect of karma through generations, the thought of "I" easily arises in the mind, and outsiders also cling to consciousness as self. In order to prevent that meaning, it is said in many treasure teachings that there is the self of the person who clings and the self of the dharma that is clung to. There are many ways to establish selflessness, such as the sevenfold reasoning of the chariot. But here, because it is in the manner of pith instructions, it is complete within, so even if it is not specifically explained in words, the meaning is the same, so it should be done in the manner of introduction. Because with only one kind of reasoning, if you do not repeatedly refute each of the objects to be refuted, you will not be able to determine, so for the benefit of those with initial faculties. Start by calling the child's name. Azer (name), when you call your name, that thought of "I" is the empty clarity of mind that has not been recognized, and from the perspective of appearance, it is a continuous stream of momentary thoughts, the body is matter, and if analyzed, it is a collection of many limbs, language is like an echo, and if analyzed, it is fragments of letters, except for clinging to these, which themselves cannot be independently established, as the basis of designation, there is not even a little bit of dharma that can be recognized as an entity. Clinging to the self is your own illusion, because you cling to many as one, and you take what is not established as the basis of designation. That is to say, the three of body, speech, and mind, and the aggregates, etc., are many different things, and it is impossible for the self and the nature to be one. If they exist, the aggregates, etc., would become one, and I would become a name, but if you think they exist separately, then like a sheep separated from a horse and a donkey, can it be pointed out? Even if it is not like that, there must be a basis for designation that you can experience yourself, but you cannot determine it. If you do not understand these two situations in which things are universally present, how can it exist? It is established like a rabbit's horn. And the word "I" is no different from external things. In general, the aggregates, etc., from their own perspective, are also as previously stated, like the aggregates in a dream, clinging to oneself as another, like the sperm and blood of parents, clinging to another as oneself, clinging to many as one, and if clinging to what does not exist as existing, then like a flower in the sky, it becomes the basis of designation for the son of a barren woman.

Just as oil cannot be extracted from sand. As stated in the *Entering the Bodhisattva's Way*, "Though one speaks to make the unaccomplished accomplished, this unaccomplished thing will ultimately not be accomplished." Therefore, just as with selflessness, clinging to the aggregates is also a delusion. As stated in the *Instructions on Manifestation*, "I' or 'self' does not exist; it is merely clinging to these aggregates that creates delusion." Furthermore, it is explained that the five aggregates that are grasped are encompassed by both body and mind, thus demonstrating that they are not the same as self. As stated therein, "The body is not self, for it is like an external wall composed of flesh, bones, and the aggregation of the great elements. The mind is also not self, for it has no substance." The *Entering the Bodhisattva's Way* also states, "Teeth, hair, and nails are not self," and so forth. The six consciousnesses are also not self. The past and future minds are not self, for they no longer exist. If one says that the mind that arises now is self, then when it vanishes, there is also no self. If one thinks that there is no 'I,' then what is the object of the innate mind's clinging to the idea of 'I'? It is not because there is something to be grasped, but because one has become accustomed to focusing on the aggregates and generating the idea of 'I,' just like seeing a snake in a rope, it is merely a view of the corruptible collection. Secondly, from "clinging" to "is." If this is the case, just as with selflessness, it is clear that self-grasping should not arise, so what is the reason for it? Clinging to self is a mistaken understanding that arises due to the power of ignorance and delusion, a sudden clinging. As stated in the *Secret Essence Tantra*, "All the deluded phenomena of the world arise from the grasping and apprehending of ignorance, the inner and outer dependent origination revolve in two, and one experiences unpleasant suffering and happiness." Furthermore, as stated in the *String of Pearls*, "All the various appearances that appear in this way are like seeing a snake in a rope. By grasping what is not that as that, the inner and outer containers and contents are formed into two." Therefore, once one clings to that clinging as self, if one praises the self that arises from that root, one will be pleased; if one disparages it, one will be displeased. In short, one becomes attached to desirable and pleasing things for oneself and one's own side, and one hates unpleasant and adverse circumstances for others and the opposing side, thus generating countless thoughts of the eighty-four thousand afflictions. This is also because one grasps the objectless object, the selfless self, as real, and thus generates false discriminations of acceptance and rejection. In this way, due to the power of afflictions, one creates
