Also, the conceptual thoughts of the object should be thoroughly purified. As it says in the Gdan bzhi: 'Like subduing illusion with illusion, with these skillful means of practice, practice mantra like a dream. By conceptual thought, completely abandon conceptual thought.' Thus, if one says to oneself, 'I will only treat this as a game,' and then relies on other preliminaries with effort, know that this is the work of a demon. The Establishment of the Samaya Mudra Third, the establishment of the Samaya Mudra is: Samaya Oath). That is to say, relying on such a samaya, one can truly accomplish the definitive meaning of the main practice. The three mudras are as before. This preliminary was expanded because the precious Lama himself said it needed to be slightly expanded. Three, the actual preliminary of the session. The actual practice, benefits, and mudra. The first is: From 'Then purify the obscurations...' to 'should do.' After the special preliminary is accomplished, from then on, at the beginning of the practice, in order to purify the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge in one's own mindstream, and in order to receive the blessings of the lineage, one should diligently practice Guru Yoga. In general, no matter what one's own Lama is like, practicing him is said to be the supreme method that becomes the source of all siddhis. If one practices like a Yidam, one will not be liberated without performing the recitation and practice according to the ritual. Moreover, some people think that one should not visualize it as an ordinary and inferior form. However, the Great Adornment Sutra says: 'Better than meditating on hundreds of thousands of deities, if one's focus on the Lama's form does not waver, hundreds and thousands of merits cannot compare.' This refutes those views. If the Lama is an emanation who tames beings or a reincarnation emanation, if one cannot practice, then most of the thousand Buddhas cannot be practiced. However, if one thinks that it is different because it does not have the complete marks and signs, then you cannot practice the Wheel-Turning King either, which is the definitive meaning of not practicing. Originally, the marks and signs truly exist in the Sambhogakaya, so you cannot practice the Nirmanakaya, etc. The Dharmakaya has no marks and signs, so the fault of not practicing it cannot be avoided. However, in order to accord with the general situation of coarse minds, one practices like the secret practice of Padma Heart Essence, therefore one performs the recitation, and in order to generate the realization of the main practice, and in order to establish the lineage of the state of fruition, one earnestly prays, and with the three doors, one respectfully prostrates and circumambulates, and also offers the outer, inner, and secret mandalas.

Having meditated on the Mother Yoga, one should offer with sevenfold purity and thereby receive the four empowerments. That is to say, in general, observing the way to rely on the lama, one should not think of faults, but focus solely on qualities and strive to generate devotion. Until that arises, one should think, "I have obtained the Dharma, so I should not criticize." Other than thinking that one must make this supplication, one should not (think), "The lama is just so-so. Although there are qualities, there are also such faults," and one should not say it out loud. Also, if one does not have faith, respect, and service for the lama who is actually present, but engages in activities such as drawing images and making offerings, it is said that it is of little meaning. Therefore, without meditating on either the generation or completion stage beforehand, by focusing solely on this practice, the main practice will naturally arise in the lineage. Until the state of being overwhelmed by devotion, which is the cause of the lama's mind and one's own mind becoming one, arises, one should practice these stages. The second is the necessity: from "its blessings" to "arise." In this way, by offering and practicing the lama, one will generate more merit than meditating on the generation and completion stages for eons, and one will also accomplish the fruit of Buddhahood simultaneously. As it says in the Kun Dus: Whoever for millions of eons, Meditates on millions of deities, The merit of remembering the lama is supreme, The limits of this merit are immeasurable. It also says: Whoever for twenty eons of the completion stage, Abandons distractions and meditates, Just the lama arising in the center of one's mind, Is not equal to twenty thousand merits. By the thought of meditating and praising the lama, One will definitely accomplish the fruit of Buddhahood simultaneously. It also says about the benefits of supplication, as it says in the Damtsig Kodpa: Better than approaching, practicing, reciting, and repeating millions of times, One supplication to the lama is the most supreme. In this way, blessings enter one's own mindstream, the obscurations of the three doors are purified, realization increases, and the meaning of the correct view and meditation is transmitted to the lineage without error. Jetsun said: If a qualified lama is supplicated by a respectful disciple, then meditation will also come along. Regarding the blessings entering the lineage, Geshe Tonpa said: I have experience that supplicating Atisha is more blessed than supplicating the yidam deity. (Third, examine.) The mudra is Sa (ས་, Devanagari: स, Sanskrit Romanization: sa, meaning: earth) etc.
