Due to abiding in the state of calmness through meditation, demons without higher vision arise; abandoning the protection of the self-luminous radiance of self-aware wisdom; also, pretending to be practitioners in front of others, thereby deceiving them; distorting the essential points of secret matters; being attached to the bliss of the four joys of the third empowerment, and being deceived by the demon of desire and craving; hoping to be equal to yogis with valid transmissions, and consequently slandering, giving rise to the demon of hatred; accusing others, thereby falling oneself; generating great pride, and engaging in actions such as stealing teachings, this is the sixth. In the All-Encompassing Great Perfection of the Spontaneously Arisen Bliss Wheel, it says: "The demon of worldly dakini prophecies, The demon of attachment to experiences, The demon of desire and pretense, The demon of exhausting bliss through attachment, The demon of baseless accusations and hatred, The demon of pride and exaggeration will arise." Such demons arise due to not realizing the view. So, how are these eighteen demons to be subdued? There are three methods: subduing with eighteen forms of subjugation, condensing into three, and decisively cutting through with one. The first is: Subjugate forms as illusory or like reflections; Subjugate sounds by knowing them as echoes; Subjugate fearful forms as dreams; Subjugate deceptive words by realizing them as beyond the words of reality. The demons of meditation are: When drowsy, meditate on the lama, blend mind and heart upwards; Raise the view; Relax the mind and be joyful; Endure the body like a bubble in water; Meditate on a rock; Bring forth the sharpness of higher vision awareness; If the demon of drowsiness and bliss arises, similarly subdue it by looking at awareness. If the demon of agitation and non-conceptualization arises, lower the view; Place the meditation hat on the head; Merge the lama into oneself; Gently hold the mind on the bindu in the heart; Since self-awareness is without agitation, dispel it by entrusting it to the support of meditation. If the demon of scattering and immovability arises, recognize the spontaneously arisen wisdom that is unchanging from the beginning, and with the mindfulness that understands whether lower movements arise or not, possess the dharani that does not forget, and thereby subjugate it. The demons of conduct are: Knowing busyness as the enemy of samadhi, subdue it with few desires and contentment; With conduct like a wild animal attached to objects

Wandering in indefinite solitary places, thereby subduing with power; subduing with the power of the confidence of the view of self-awareness, the great absence of place; knowing that the distracting demon does not accomplish self-benefit, nor does it accomplish the benefit of others, therefore not letting others control it, thereby subduing it; for the evil retinue whose minds are disturbed, knowing that those who ultimately have the nature of separation have no connection, and that temporary connections are enemies by nature, therefore abandoning them and cutting off attachment, thereby subduing them; as for the demon of experience, in the prophecies of the dakinis, knowing that if prophecies are made other than from unchanging self-awareness, they are deceptive, therefore subduing them without hope or doubt; if the demon of experiential circumstances arises, because the dharmakaya without beginning or end is unchanging, and the samadhi cannot be changed, knowing it as a demon, therefore subduing it with a view of non-attachment; if the demon of pretense arises, remembering the meaning of uncreated self-arising, subduing it with the yoga that establishes the realization of the confidence of the dharmakaya; if the demon of usurpation arises, knowing that self-arising has no basis, therefore not relying on empowerment, remembering the meaning of spontaneous accomplishment, if one desires to arise from causes and conditions, then subduing effort with power; as for the demon of denying truth and slandering, knowing that those who possess the scriptures of the dharmakaya, free from addition and subtraction, cannot be harmed, therefore subduing them with power; as for the demon of pride and exaggeration, not revealing secrets to unworthy vessels, and not defiling the meaning of secrets with preciousness, thereby subduing them; if the two are summarized into three, then all of them are responses of affirmation and negation, holding as true the appearances and the eight worldly concerns that are encompassed by objects and consciousness, therefore, knowing that all external appearances of objects, good and bad, praise and blame, are like the eight examples of illusion, therefore, without gain or loss in them, cutting off hope and doubt in their own place, thereby subduing them; likewise, the mind that appears or affirms and negates, like hail in the sky, knowing that its nature of arising momentarily without parts is not established as a recognizable dharma, therefore not indulging in attachment after that one moment, thereby subduing it; and also, the great bliss of secret self-awareness, like the sky, free from elaboration and clear, without clinging or fixation, thereby subduing it, these three are completed, in any external object without appearance, there is no affirmation or negation, attachment or aversion, clinging or fixation, in any internal object without grasping.
