「Pointing」 etc., as stated in the chapter of "Buddha Pointing". Third, in the path of seeing, wisdom self-awareness manifests, as taught by the guru, directly seeing the Dharmakaya. Second, in the path of meditation, practicing the path through meditation, namely: Which bardo is this practice for? The actual content of the practice? Its necessity or merit? Among the three, first, in general, the practice of Trekchö and Tögal is the first bardo, the ground-essence like space, free from all elaborations, the nature of primordial purity that does not fall to any side, appearing in three instants, that is called the samsara-nirvana bardo, therefore it is in accordance with it, whichever of the luminous example and meaning, is emptied by the protection of Trekchö, at that time the luminous truly appears, as before, at the same time as knowing the self-nature without even the slightest subtle afflictions, one becomes enlightened on the ground of primordial purity, and the unobstructed self-radiance of the spontaneously accomplished body and wisdom, appearing from the second bardo onwards, that is the self-nature knowing of the power of Tögal meditation and entering, one will obtain liberation through the gate of possessing both, therefore only those two are the face of luminous emptiness, practicing with red copper, as stated in the Tantra of Black Yamantaka: "The yogi who realizes the definitive meaning, when the demon of birth and death appears once, the image of the wisdom Dharmakaya, the enjoyment body and the emanation appear." Second, when practicing the path, the reason for practicing, the method of how to practice, and the nature of the intention, among the three, first, now at this time of obtaining leisure and endowment, one must liberate oneself with the Dharma, it is difficult for others to force you to become a Buddha, moreover, the wisdom of hearing and thinking, for what one is to practice, one must have a method that is not bad, one does not need more than that, because life is short, and if one expands too much on it, when the Lord of Death arrives, it will not help at all, and on top of that, one will have as much arrogance as a mountain. The wisdom of contemplation is also more important than that, one must combine it with one's own mind-stream, and if one becomes wealthy, if the elaboration is too great, like thinking whether the poison shot by an arrow is on the arrowhead or on the tail, it is useless, because one will be consumed by the poison and die. This is given as an example.

The wisdom of hearing and thinking is superior to both, for example, if there is food but you don't eat it, you cannot relieve hunger, but if you eat it, you can relieve it, so it is very important. In the final age of degeneration, between teaching and practice, if teaching is considered the most important, then it is certain to be controlled by the demons of fame and gain, and there is no greater obstacle than this to obtaining the fruit of Buddhahood. If it is not used as a means of practice, then all the sutras, tantras, and pith instructions will become meaningless. To be fond of empty talk without collecting the fruit, like not collecting the peel but seeking the essence, this is very important. For example, in the "Great Play Sutra" it says: "Like a deaf musician, others rejoice because of him, but he cannot hear himself, so it is with those who do not practice the Dharma. Like those who are tormented by thirst, merely seeing and hearing the sound of water cannot relieve their thirst, so it is with those who do not practice the Dharma. Like a skilled masseur, others are liberated by him, but he dies because of it, so it is with those who do not practice the Dharma." In particular, the profound intention of the Tathagatas, which transcends conceptual thought, is not within the scope of hearing and thinking. Like the supreme bliss of a young maiden, experiencing the supreme dominion in a way that has not been experienced is meditation, so it is necessary to meditate. Even so, suppressing the afflictive thoughts that should be abandoned is the meditation of the mind; uprooting them from the source, like a lamp in the darkness, the boundless meditation in the state of self-born wisdom, of these two, relying on the supreme state of wisdom is the most important. Other hearing and thinking, like binding samsara with golden chains, the thoughts of mind and mental factors are not contrary to reality, but become a burden. Moreover, if that is the case, the meditation of the mind with an object, although the mind and attachment are contradictory, is not contrary to the reality of consciousness, so the benefit is small. The quick path of Dzogchen is also accomplished from this. As it is said: "Through hearing, thinking, and meditation, one will not know its meaning, it is not the realm of sound and measure, it is not the realm of scripture and reason." It is also said: "The inconceivable Dharmata Bodhicitta cannot be determined by thought and meditation." Also, in the "Five Treatises on Cutting Proliferation" it says: "The meditation that imprisons the mind is the meditation of the four mindfulnesses."
