Suffering! The suffering that arises from one's own mind is inconceivable. In short, alas! In the realms of the ten directions, having obtained a body that easily yields fruit, capable of serving as a basis for the three vows, possessing the strength to practice liberation and the wisdom to discern, a precious human body that is better than any I could have, yet knowingly and deliberately wasting it, the suffering of feeling such a great loss is profound regret. Having encountered a rare and precious lama, yet unable to generate even a little faith, instead clinging to wrong views; having received rare instructions, yet not cherishing them, instead being distracted by the affairs of this life, the suffering of feeling such a great loss is profound regret. Even taking up the ten virtues, abandoning the ten non-virtues, prostrating and circumambulating, giving to fish and ants, rejoicing in beneficial thoughts, even reciting a single mani (藏文:མ་ཎི།), without doing so with contempt, is worse than returning empty-handed from the Golden Isle, the suffering of regretting with overwhelming remorse. Especially now, even if I have a little, thinking, 'What use is Dharma, even if it is beneficial?' and even if there is a little, thinking, 'What use is sin, even if it is extremely harmful?' letting the mind run wild. The number of virtues is fewer than the stars in the day, the number of sins is more than the dust of the great earth. Even if there are one or two virtues, some are destroyed by hatred, some are destroyed by pride and ostentation, some are destroyed by regret, some are destroyed by not dedicating, some are destroyed by wrong dedication, some whose initial intention was non-virtuous did not transform into virtue, some that were mixed with sin in between, leaving not even a little pure Dharma. The body becoming a direct or indirect supportive condition, speech becoming a direct or indirect echo, the mind becoming a direct or indirect rejoicing, and so on, the burden of sin is greater than Mount Meru, deeper than the ocean, more numerous than the stars, longer than a river. What can be done now? Suffering like being seized by the Black King! Furthermore, remembering the past happiness, thinking that from today onwards there is no freedom to live as one pleases, clinging to worldly things, unable to leave, and thus suffering. From all directions, not finding a protector or refuge, the suffering of being helpless. Unable to separate due to the habitual tendencies formed by associating with close relatives.

Furthermore, there is the suffering of being without freedom and unable to cope in the future. Even if wealth and enjoyment are accumulated through sin, there is no power to use them, like property being confiscated. Sin has already been accumulated, so there is regret. All wealth becomes the property of others, and because of attachment, it cannot be let go, so there is suffering. Looking outward, there are about seven standing Yamarajas, emaciated bodies, naked, with red hair standing on end, the jaw (Tibetan: གཙིགས་དཔྱད།, meaning: judgment) bound, teeth bared, threatening with clubs, black feet placed on the neck, darkness welcoming ahead, driven by black winds, experiencing unbearable suffering of fear and panic. Furthermore, there is the suffering of separating from the cherished body of attachment, experiencing immeasurable suffering. After that, hearing the sound of hell executioners shouting to kill, there is suffering. Hearing the cries of sentient beings, there is suffering. Hearing the roar of flames, experiencing unimaginable suffering of fear and panic. Even if it is not like that, there is the suffering of worrying about what one will experience in the lower realms, and the fear of having to go alone. The suffering of the body, even one percent of being afflicted by a serious illness, cannot be endured. The suffering of speech, even one percent of covering the mouth with hands and enduring in silence, cannot be endured. The suffering of the mind, even one percent of the death of a child, cannot be endured. The suffering of separation, even one percent of being separated alive from family, cannot be endured. The suffering of the body, even one percent of being conquered by enemies, cannot be endured. The suffering of wrong thoughts, even one percent of impure paternal lineage, cannot be endured. The suffering of completion, even one percent of swallowing poison, cannot be endured. Samaya! Second, explaining the way the elements dissolve: the way the outer elements dissolve into the inner elements, causing the twenty gross phenomena of samsara to dissolve. The twenty-five ways the inner elements dissolve. Furthermore, the appearance of the four subtle emptinesses and the eight appearances of primordial purity (Tibetan: ཀ་དག་) are the bardo of death and existence. The spontaneously accomplished body and wisdom, etc., are placed in the bardo of the appearance of dharmata. The emptiness of primordial purity is also the death bardo of the way of dissolution, it is the law of cause and effect, and needs to be observed. When form dissolves, external form ceases. When feeling dissolves, there is no longer discrimination between pleasure, pain, and neutrality. When perception dissolves, there is no longer discrimination between large and small.
