Habitual imprints accumulate. If there is coarse food, then there is desire; if there is no subtle mental food, then it is in the formless realm. The so-called Bardo of Reality mainly refers to the appearances of each of the six types of sentient beings while dwelling in any of the four types of birth places, having taken hold of existence. The cessation of life refers to the obstruction from eighty thousand great kalpas in the formless realm, to the kalpa of hell, to human life from immeasurable years to ten years, and so on. Animal realm has long kalpas, and short ones are just a day. Devas in the desire and form realms also have uncertain durations such as half a kalpa and five hundred years. The details are as explained in the Abhisamayalankara of Padma, my own. The instruction here is according to the order of generating the purification of birth places. Secondly, regarding the way the Bardo of Dying arises, there are three aspects: the reasons for certain death, the signs of death, and the actual suffering. Firstly, in general, among all conditioned phenomena, there is nothing that remains permanent. Therefore, there is no reason for permanence in one's own conditioned phenomena. In particular, our human birth place is also formed by the aggregation of causes and conditions such as the sperm and blood of parents. To grasp as self the many things that have not become a single aggregate, that have not met, touched, or adhered, is to have already grasped impermanence as self from the very beginning, so there is a reason. Sudden external conditions, four hundred and four diseases, eighty thousand demonic influences, three hundred and sixty companions, and so on, are inconceivable. The conditions for survival are few, and they also turn into conditions for death, so there is no certainty. The harm from the arising of the disease elements of the four aggregates is naturally dangerous, so there is nothing permanent here. There is no one who has lived to be a hundred years old and is still alive, and there is no one, high or low, strong or weak, who has not been seized by death and has gone to liberation. Like a dream, it is not established, so it is impermanent; like flowing water, it does not stay, so it is impermanent; like a pond, it does not increase, so it is impermanent; like wind, it does not stay, so it is impermanent; like an emanation, it is short-lived, so it does not stay, so it is impermanent; like an illusion, it has no truth, so it is impermanent; like a guest, it does not stay, so it is impermanent; like a cloud, it has no fixed time, so it is impermanent; there is no fixed grasp on time, so it is impermanent; the scriptures consistently say this, so it is impermanent; the external changes of time are evident, so it is impermanent.

and, impermanence due to experiencing changes in age, impermanence due to the swiftness of calamities in time, impermanence due to being of no benefit whatsoever, and impermanence due to no one being able to turn it back, the secret word of Padma is certain. Samaya. Second, the three teachings on the signs of death, deception, and instruction (regarding the sections here, those who observe the meaning of the tantras should observe). Among them, regarding the signs of death: the four signs of outer, inner, secret, and very secret, and the three signs of near, far, and very near, all tantras and oral instructions agree. The outer signs, which are the signs of death appearing in dreams: dreaming of climbing a mountain in China, is a sign of death 1; dreaming of red flowers blooming, is a sign of death 2; climbing a stupa 3; climbing a sand mountain 4; climbing an ash heap 5; riding a monkey with the face turned backwards 6; riding a donkey with the face turned backwards 7; riding a pig with the face turned backwards 8; riding a mule with the face turned backwards 9; riding a buffalo with the face turned backwards 10; sleeping with an unfamiliar black woman wearing black clothes 11; a black woman cutting open my stomach 12; a black man killing me with a stick 13; being taken away or kidnapped 14; wandering like a mosquito in an unfamiliar empty country 15; dreaming of wild animals etc. taking away the heart 16; dreaming of committing suicide 17; dreaming of going south 18; being naked and smeared with ashes 19; wearing black rags on the body 20; wearing a pot on the head 21; having a rope placed around the neck 22; dreaming of playing with many dead people 23; they give food and drink 24; also dreaming that it is always dark 25; an empty plain 26; an empty valley 27; an empty ravine etc., staying alone unhappily 28; going elsewhere and looking for a dwelling 29; wearing red clothes and going west 30; escorting others 31; dreaming of living in a mud house without a door 32 etc. These appearing once or twice are not certain, because it is the path of delusion, and observing within three years, so it is called the outer sign. The inner signs are those that appear on the body: there are two types, unexamined signs and examined signs. The first is: when there is no illness, the luster and redness of the nails
