And also, generating such thoughts, exchanging and substituting like this, all sorts of phenomena are just like that. Just as a child grasps the image in a mirror as real, generate compassion for these sentient beings and cultivate compassion. This is not meaningless toil. Why? Because the appearance of form ceases, and due to the great power of habituation, the mind's strength of appearing without being there arises. By continuously familiarizing with that, after a while, attachment to real form will definitely gradually decrease. And also, when engaging in activities from then on, practice thinking that all these appearances of phenomena are just like reflections in a mirror, and by mixing practice with that, one will be liberated through skillful practice. Similarly, practice skill on one's own body internally. Adorn the body with ornaments, wash the face beautifully, and look at it in the mirror. There is nothing true or false between my body and this (reflection in the mirror). It is something that appears without being there, and appears while not being there. This is not my own body, because it is a reflection that appears in the mirror due to causes and conditions. If one thinks it is real, then this body is also not mine, because it is born from the sperm and blood of parents, and is formed by causes and conditions. Because sperm and blood do not have such a shape, and because they are not equal in size, and because they are not yet formed, when thinking like this, grasping the reflection in the mirror as "I" will also powerfully cut off self-grasping. And also, by carefully observing one's own body, one can clearly see even the pores of the hair. One does not see even a sesame seed-sized object as a single entity, but as many, scattered, not sticking together, without essence, like a tree in water, one becomes certain that there is no substance, and arises without doubt. And also, just like before, without distraction, looking at the mirror, alternately rotating and engaging in analytical meditation, afterwards one can also recognize the body as appearing empty, like a reflection in a mirror, and it is necessary to realize that that body has no inherent existence. After that, meditate on the sound of speech as being like the echo of an empty valley, meditating internally and externally. Arriving at the foot of a high cliff mountain, listening to the sound of a drum echoing from afar, examine the sound and the echo. This sound is not in any of the three places of the drum, inside, outside, or in between, but is an appearance of conditions. And the echo is not in any of the three places of the rock, inside, outside, or in between, because no difference is found, therefore one should

Then engage in analytical meditation, and listen to the expressions of your own inner voice, as well as the images of all the sounds and words related to the mind, practicing like an echo. By examining where the speech of yourself and others exists between the outer, inner, and intermediate parts of the body, alternate between listening, abiding, and expanding the echo and the initial sound, and as before, become accustomed to and integrate certainty, thereby engaging in various praises and criticisms. However, although the sound of the echo has no intention of praise or criticism, just as it naturally arises, sound has no real entity, nor a place of attachment, no thoughts of love and hatred, and the basis, the vowels and consonants, are neither praise nor criticism. No matter how the sounds of praise and criticism encounter my three doors of body, speech, and mind, they do not truly merge, therefore, thinking that these sentient beings are accepting these, compassion arises in the heart, and this thought naturally arises, that is the extent of habituation. All post-meditation sounds have no beginning or end, no inside or outside, no coming or going, no up or down, no comparison of large or small, and no pleasant or unpleasant. Because the sound of a person's death sounds pleasant to his enemy, unpleasant to relatives, and to those in between, it is just indifferent chatter, unable to stand on its own, so contemplate this state of non-entity, do not lose the desire of the mind, tie it with the rope of mindfulness, entrust it to the vigilance of awareness, and practice it diligently with constant respect for effort. Then, secretly purify the mind like clouds and wind. By observing the arising of clouds, even without cause and condition, observe where this appearance first arises, etc. Or observe the arising of wind, this phenomenon that is not established in any subtle or coarse thing, the cause and condition of its first arising, the nature of its abiding in the middle, and the place of its final disappearance. Therefore, my mind is also no different from this, all the various negations and affirmations that appear are like clouds and wind. As a sign of this, desire cannot stand on its own, therefore, if an unwanted thing arises for someone who was previously disliked, then that person will be happy. If later it becomes liked, then the unwanted thing for him is unwanted, and suffering etc. should also be destroyed in the same way. Furthermore, clouds are fragmented, unstable, of uncertain shape, not attached to the surface of the sky, and not established in nature, similarly, the mind is also composed of many different fragments, without stopping for even a moment.
