When a man and woman engage in union, at the moment when the bliss of both is equally mingled, the mind of dualistic grasping dissolves into the womb. The bindus of both parents, and these causes and conditions, are thoroughly mixed, like blood and yogurt. It comes into being as a body of the four elements. In eight weeks, it becomes indistinct, wriggling, and round. Gradually it hardens, spreads, and becomes like a turtle or a frog. The body gradually grows. Thus it is said. In the *Extensive Sutra*, it says: Thus in forty weeks, nine months and eight days, generally nine months and ten days, the consciousness of toil arises in the womb. The propelling wind contracts it downwards, and with head and feet reversed, it emerges outwards. Thus it is separated from the confines of the womb. The previous imprints become faint, and the subsequent acquisitions are not truly met. Consciousness is less clear than before, and the power of all the channels and winds has not arisen. Without distinguishing between the essence and the dregs of the elements, diseases and harmful influences arise. Then, by eating nourishing food, the essence generates the energy of the elements, and the dregs generate the strength of the body, and gradually the bodies are generated. Thus it is said. Moreover, from the bindu obtained from the father, fat, marrow, and semen mature; from the blood obtained from the mother, flesh, blood, and skin mature, and the body grows. In the *Questions of the Four Goddesses Sutra*, it says: The water element is said to arise from the father, the fire element arises from the mother, and flesh, blood, and skin also, are said to arise from the mother. Fat, marrow, and semen, are said to arise from the father. Thus it is said. These nourishing foods, when in the mother's body, by eating the mother's food, become the condition for the growth of the child's body. After birth, what one eats oneself, both the essence and the dregs, mature as nourishment for the channels and the body. Thus, that matured body, in the womb, forms two hundred and twenty each day, so that in a month there are six thousand, and in nine months and ten days there are fifty-four thousand. In the third month after birth, seventy-two thousand are completed. Three hundred and sixty bones, fifty handfuls of flesh, six handfuls of blood, six large fish-like areas, one handful of brain, three body-lengths of intestines, eighty-four thousand hairs, one hundred million body hairs, thirty-two teeth, twenty-eight vertebrae, sixteen ribs, and so forth, the complete formation of one's own body, a cubit square, is also said in the *Extensive Sutra*: Thus, this perfect and complete body

li! There are three hundred and sixty bones, fifty handfuls of flesh, six handfuls of one's own blood, seventy thousand veins, six large joints, one handful of one's own brain, three spans of intestines, eighty-four thousand hairs, one crore of body hairs, thirty-two teeth, twenty-eight vertebrae, sixteen ribs, etc., one span square, one's own body is complete. Thus it is said. Secondly, regarding the state of the formation of the dependent channels, winds, and bindus, there are three aspects. Firstly, the manner of formation has already been discussed. Regarding the state, the formation sites of the two channels of wisdom and arising exist separately, but the former is the content to be explained below, so it is not mentioned here. The wisdom of all channels is the Bodhisattva, and within that, the element (Sanskrit: dhātu) abides in the state of Samadhi Bodhisattva. The latter, the channels of arising from one's own ground, are: generally, the two Rōraṅ channels, which are formed together with the central channel, entwine from the left and right, and the gathering places of the six chakras and six intermediate chakras are entwined into twenty-one knots, namely three, and the four channels of arising, the three-circled channel, the desire channel, the wandering channel, the fierce channel, including the demon-free channel, there are eight in total. Also, the meaning of the three Rōraṅ channels of the left, right, and central channels, the channels that grow like mushrooms after rain, the eight channels such as the tip channel, etc., are said to be twenty-four places, and adding the previous eight, they are called the channels of thirty-two places. The ten knot boundaries of Rōraṅ are said to be the ten places of Heruka, combined with the ten bhūmis, etc. Also, it is said to be the chakra of channels: thirty-two at the crown, sixteen at the throat, eight at the heart, sixty-four at the navel, totaling one hundred and twenty. Also, at the crown, there are no channel petals or four petals. At the pleasure wheel, there are said to be seventy-two channel petals. The twenty-four places of channels are divided into body, speech, and mind, three each, totaling seventy-two. Each of these has thousands of branch channels, totaling seventy-two thousand, etc. Also, in the "Sutra of Joyful Entering the Womb," it is said that there are eighty-four thousand channels, with twenty-one thousand channels each on the left, right, front, and back of the body, etc. Although there are many differences, they are only differences in classification and summarization, and there is no contradiction. Here, the view of Longchen Rabjampa's lineage is that the central channel is located in the center.
