May great compassion, impartial to all beings, cause all to swiftly attain Buddhahood. This is the sole near path of all Buddhas, The great, perfect vehicle praised by all Buddhas. May the Nyingma lineage of the victorious Padmasambhava, Flourish like the sun, bringing auspiciousness! The essence of the Ornament of the Clear Lamp is here. The meaning of the title "Ornament of the Clear Lamp" is: The nature of all phenomena, the wisdom mind of enlightenment that is inseparable from the sphere free from elaboration, is the clear aspect of all-knowing and all-seeing that has been present from the beginning and abides in the ground, and is an uninterrupted consciousness, hence it is called wisdom. Its two aspects of appearance and emptiness are called the Buddha Dharmakaya Kuntuzangpo (Samantabhadra) and Kuntuzangmo (Samantabhadri). As it is said in the secret instruction of the heart essence: "The essence of one's own awareness is emptiness, and the consciousness that abides indivisibly in a clear and distinct manner is the Buddha Dharmakaya." And as it is said: "Self-born wisdom knows from the beginning. That wisdom that realizes objects is not self-born because it arises from objects." So it is. The word "lamp" means that the appearing aspect of that wisdom of the union of appearance and emptiness is without cessation. At any time of the three times of ground, path, and result, the body is clear within, the light is clear in between, and the bindu is clear without, so that it appears manifestly without relying on logical inference. As it is said: "The body is clear within like a vase. The light is like a butter lamp in a vase." And so on. Moreover, the essence abiding as the body is the greatness of the Dharmakaya. The nature abiding as speech is the greatness of the Sambhogakaya. Compassion, wisdom, or abiding as the mind is the greatness of the Nirmanakaya, etc. That Buddha who possesses all qualities has been abiding in oneself from the beginning, and abides completely in the manner of the five abidings. That is, the self-arisen tantra of the Buddha says: "The Buddha Dharmakaya abides in the center of one's heart. The body of wisdom, clear and transparent, abides in the center of one's face. The self-born body of bindu abides in all the channels. The body of perfect enjoyment abides in one's head. And the body of emanated rays abides in the spine." And so on. In the Hevajra it says: "The nature of mind is the perfect Buddha. Do not seek the Buddha elsewhere." And so on. Such a symbol or

The name is "Illuminating the Tantra of the Basis of Self-Nature." Or, it is called "Illuminating or Elucidating the Tantra of the Nature of Means." Because it illuminates and realizes the splendor of this secret instruction as it is, making it beautiful, like an ornament, it is called "Ornament." "Says" means proclaiming the name. "Abides" means that such a teaching is here. If we mention this name in Chinese, it is "Jnana" etc. In Tibetan, it is "Yeshe" etc. If we mix the two languages, it is "Jnana Yeshe." "Dipa" is "Lamp." "Adama Bhurapa," "Great Freedom." "Prakada" is "Manifest." "Alamkara" is "Ornament." It is called "Kanma." By mentioning the name in this way, like starting to speak from the tip of an arrow, those of superior faculties can understand the meaning contained from beginning to end. Those of intermediate faculties can know which side it belongs to, whether it is Mahayana or Hinayana. Those of inferior faculties can easily find the scriptures, which is its necessity. By mixing the two languages, one can leave an imprint on the language, bless the tantra, and believe that the source of the Dharma is pure, etc., these are its necessities. In the meaning of the name, the meaning of the beginning and the end are contained, so it also includes the general meaning of speaking from the waist of the arrow, which is the meaning of the intermediate faculties. Regarding the statement of offering, it is divided into two types: brief and detailed. The first is "Glorious Samantabhadra" etc. Among them, "Glorious" refers to the five Samantabhadras, each of which fully possesses the meaning of the qualities of abandonment and realization. That is, for the self-nature Samantabhadra, all the dharmas of samsara, nirvana, and the path exist in the form of great merit. For awareness, it has the meaning of fully possessing the twenty-five result dharmas. For realization, it has the meaning of abandoning the two obscurations and increasing the wisdom of the two knowledges. The boundary of the splendorous appearance is unfolded in an immeasurable way. And the view, meditation, conduct, and result of combining these parts, the basis, path, and vows, etc. of Samantabhadra, each has the glory of complete merit. The reason it is called "Samantabhadra" is because everything is originally Buddha, and there is no impure basis. The so-called "prostration" refers to the meaning of aspiration or awareness through the three ways of view, meditation, and faith, in order to adapt to the wisdom of different people. That is, through the power of prostrating to the first teacher of the tantra, one naturally benefits sentient beings in his form.
