Regarding the initial empowerment, there are two ways to practice, general and specific. Firstly, there are two types: mind-holding for gods and humans, etc., and the contemplation of the Great Vehicle. Firstly, there are two aspects: actual practice and obstacle removal. The first is: Through the gateway of three sevens, from the Root Tantra of Sound Transformation, with the twenty-one practices of mind-holding: First, to abide in the place; second, to separate body and mind; and third, to see the nature of reality. At this time, the key points of body, speech, and mind should be truly settled by one who possesses yoga. So it is said. Such twenty-one mind-holdings are from the Tantra of Sun and Moon Union: Kye Kye! Great Sage, listen also! By entrusting the mind to the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal meaning: A), attachment to objects is naturally released. By entrusting the mind to the deity of generation, the impurities of the body are purified. With the Vajra song of speech, one satisfies the mind of that deity. By entrusting the mind to the letter Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hum), the impurities of that speech are purified. Whoever holds the mind to Ram (Tibetan: རཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: रं, Sanskrit Romanization: raṃ, Literal meaning: Ram), purifies all things. Whoever abides in the letter Ha (Tibetan: ཧ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ह, Sanskrit Romanization: ha, Literal meaning: Ha), exhausts all delusion. Whoever entrusts the mind to Phat (Tibetan: ཕཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal meaning: Phat), abandons harm to body and speech. Whoever meditates on the bindu between the eyebrows, becomes accustomed to the winds. Holding the mind in the nine apertures, one blocks the doors of the senses. Whoever is accustomed to the tip of the nose, gathers the increasing elements back to their place. Whoever meditates on the self-light of the body, becomes accustomed to the ground of the bardo. Whoever throws the mind into the sky, becomes accustomed to emptiness. Whoever takes the mind with the ear, enjoys sounds as desired. Whoever holds the mind in the heart, purifies thoughts naturally. Whoever abides in emptiness, stops attachment to objects. Whoever meditates on the astonishment of emptiness, all thoughts are instantly empty. Whoever meditates on non-conceptual mind, reverses attachment to samsara. If one holds the mind to the five elements, the signs of the body will arise. Whoever meditates on non-conceptual wisdom, stops attachment to signs. Whoever meditates on the bliss of dual entry, makes desire a path. Whoever makes the intermediate state a path, also gains mastery over the mind here. So it is said. Furthermore, other transformations are also explained in my work, 'Cutting the Stream,' from the Tantra of Samantabhadra's Clear Wisdom Light: Hold it high in front and hold it.
