And, the teacher Samantabhadra and, the awareness Samantabhadra and, the realization Samantabhadra and, thus it is said: My own nature is Bodhicitta, I am the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Thus it is said: From the tantra of wisdom coextensive with space, inseparable from the moisture of compassion, the two aspects of mind generation are perfected in that. Thus it is said: Nagarjuna said: The meaning of being unborn from the beginning, if realized from the depths of the mind, for those drowning in the path of samsara, compassion will naturally arise. Thus it is said: Father Dampa said: Realizing emptiness and arising compassion are simultaneous. Thus it is said: In the Condensed Instructions on Empowerment it is said: From the emptiness wish-fulfilling tree, the fruit of objectless compassion arises. Thus it is said: In the scripture it is said: When a Bodhisattva is perfected by the power of habituation in meditative equipoise, especially for those possessed by the demon of clinging to reality, compassion arises. Thus it is said: In the Condensed Perfection of Wisdom it is said: In the wisdom light as vast as space, only one who possesses compassion crosses to the other shore. Thus it is said. Furthermore, either because of possessing the confidence of the view that knows that there is nothing to meditate on in the essence, or because the view descends from above and possesses the wisdom of knowledge, it is not that only those with the best faculties can enter the path, but for the middling and the lowest, with the meaning of meditating and not meditating, and with the meaning of what can be meditated on, from below upwards, with the means of great love and compassion, without abandoning but with the powerful force of embracing, it is also called the rays of knowledge and compassion. Therefore, it is the meaning of explaining the combination of the meditation of the two intelligent ones. Secondly, explaining specifically from the aspect of the actual method of meditation: Establishing the basis with the view of cutting off the lifeline of the city, practicing with the meditation of union of day and night, seeking friends with the conduct of mastering appearances, through these three, the obstruction is blocked. From Rangshar it is said: The meaning of the secret mantra Vajrayana, is summarized in three aspects: view, meditation, and conduct. Thus it is said. Among these, the first is: In general, for the intelligent ones with an object of focus, although the yoga of continuous practice of the view follows, this is not the system of an ordered path, because any of the four yogas can produce the ultimate fruit, one should know that each path is self-sufficient. Ordered or self-

For the two types of individuals with minds focused on appearances, it is first necessary to recognize the view; otherwise, through meditation, nothing can be experienced. Therefore, it must be understood that in this system of Great Perfection, the so-called seeking of the view through meditation is not correct. Other statements to the contrary are not meant in this context, but refer to something else. As it is said in the Vajrasattva Great Supreme King Tantra: Observe by seeing or not seeing; if you do not see, what is there to meditate on? For example, some blind people, touching a strong elephant, touching the trunk, tail, legs, and back, each clinging to what they touch and meditating on it, it is like that. Without understanding the reality through the view, those fools who meditate are like blind people meditating on an elephant. And in the Nectar Essence Drop it says: If you do not know the self-nature of reality, it is like a prince walking with a limp. And also, in the Victory Banner Peak Tantra it says: Until the truth is seen, meditation will not cause it to be seen. And in the Vajra Carnivorous Sharp-Beaked Tantra it says: The yogi abiding in emptiness is like the deluded path of the tirthikas (non-Buddhists). And in the Asura Battle Averter Tantra it says: Liberation is achieved through realization; meditation does not bring liberation, like groping in the dark. Therefore, relying on meditation is like groping in the place of appearances. If gold is recognized, there is no need to meditate. If it is not recognized, meditation will not lead to Buddhahood. Realization is manifest; I have not said that meditation makes it manifest. If so, there is no difference from those with minds of self-appearance. To think that the view should continuously follow is also unreasonable. Because the intent of the Buddha, the inseparability of emptiness and wisdom, and the continuous arising of the result beforehand, also cause harm. Therefore, for the three types of individuals with the wisdom of accumulation, union, and seeing, who have realized the view directly and in general meaning, the stages of meditation are established simultaneously, and it should be known that this is determined by the extent of their capacity. In the Tantra of the Source of All Qualities it says: If the ground is not realized, one will sleep in latent tendencies; no matter how much one meditates, one will err through carelessness. This also causes harm. Such nature, characteristics, distinctions, and so on have already been discussed. Second, the way to experience through meditation: there are two ways of experiencing, for those with minds focused on objects and for those with minds of self-appearance.
