In order to generate (wisdom), it should be understood that the path is capable of being self-sufficient. For those who cling to sequence or are self-opinionated, it is first necessary to recognize the view; otherwise, practice will not bring any experience. Therefore, it should be understood that in the system of Dzogchen, the saying that one first practices and then seeks the view is incorrect. What is said elsewhere is different from this, as it has another intention. As it is said, in the Tantra of the All-Supreme King Vajrasattva: "Look with seeing or not seeing. If there is no seeing, what is there to practice? For example, some blind people, grabbing a strong elephant, touch the trunk, tail, legs, feet, and back, each clinging to what they touch and practicing accordingly. Without understanding the reality through the view, those foolish ones who practice are like blind people touching an elephant." Also, in the Nectar Essence: "If one does not recognize the self-nature of reality, it is like a prince wandering everywhere." Moreover, in the Tantra of the Victory Banner Peak: "Until the truth is seen, practice will not lead to seeing." Also, in the Tantra of the Vajra Carnivorous Sharp-Mouthed One: "The yogi abiding in emptiness is like the deluded path of the tirthikas." Also, in the Tantra of the Overturning of the Asuras: "What liberates is realization; practice does not liberate. It is like showing light in the darkness. Therefore, relying on practice is like showing light in the place of appearance. If gold is realized, there is no need to practice. If it is not realized, practice will not lead to Buddhahood. Realization is manifest; I have not said that practice makes realization manifest." Thus, there is no difference from those who are self-opinionated. To think that the view is continuous and to follow it is also unreasonable. Because the intent of the Buddha, the indivisibility of the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, and the continuity of the fruit arise before (the view), it will also cause harm. Therefore, for the three who realize the view with direct perception and general meaning, and who possess the three wisdoms of gathering, combining, and seeing, the practice is established simultaneously, and it should be known that this is determined by vastness and narrowness. In the Tantra of the Source of All Qualities: "If the ground is not realized, it will be dormant; no matter how much one practices, one will stray without awareness." This also causes harm. The nature, characteristics, and divisions of such (a view) have already been thoroughly explained. Second, the method of experiencing through practice is, the object of focus

Regarding the methods of practice for those with a sense of locality and those with self-manifesting concepts, there are two types. Concerning the former, there are also two types of practice: general and specific. Firstly, there are two types: mind-holding for gods and humans, and the meditation of the Great Vehicle. Firstly, there are two types: actual and obstacle removal. The first is: through the method of three sets of seven, in the Root Tantra of Sound Transformation, it says: Through the practice of twenty-one mind-holdings: the first is to abide in the place, the second is the separation of body and mind, and the third is the realization of the nature of reality. At this time, the key points of body, speech, and mind should be properly placed by the yogi. Thus it is said. Such twenty-one mind-holdings are: In the Tantra of the Union of Sun and Moon, it says: O marvel! Great Sage, please listen! By focusing the mind on the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a, literal Chinese meaning: None), the attachment to objects is released in its own place. By focusing the mind on the deity of generation, the impurities of the body are purified. With the song of the Vajra of speech, his mind is satisfied. By focusing the mind on the letter Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ), the impurities of his speech are purified. Whoever holds the mind on Raṃ (Tibetan: རཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: रं, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: raṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Fire), he purifies all things. Whoever abides in the letter Ha (Tibetan: ཧ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ह, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: ha, literal Chinese meaning: Ha), all ignorance ceases. Whoever focuses the mind on Phaṭ (Tibetan: ཕཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: phaṭ, literal Chinese meaning: Phaṭ), he abandons the harm of body and speech. Whoever meditates on the bindu between the eyebrows, this becomes accustomed to the winds. Whoever holds the mind on the nine apertures, he blocks the doors of the senses. Whoever is accustomed to the tip of the nose, gathers the increasing elements in their own place. Whoever meditates on the self-light of the body, this becomes accustomed to the bardo ground. Whoever throws the mind into the sky, he becomes accustomed to emptiness. Whoever grasps the mind with the ear, he enjoys all sounds as he wishes. Whoever focuses the mind on the heart, this purifies thoughts in their own place. Whoever abides in emptiness, this stops the attachment to objects. Whoever meditates on the astonishment of emptiness, all memories become empty at once. Whoever meditates on the non-conceptual mind, this reverses the attachment to samsara. If the mind is held on the five elements, the signs of the body arise. Whoever meditates on non-conceptual wisdom, this stops the attachment to signs. Whoever meditates on the bliss of the two entries, this turns desire into the path. Whoever turns the bardo into the path, here also obtains mastery over the mind. Thus it is said. Apart from that, the illusion of cutting the stream, which I have made, is Samantabhadra.
