There is also no abandonment of the obscurations of afflictions, and no time to see the truth of the Buddha. In general, even when a Bodhisattva sees the truth, they will not immediately abandon all practice. For ordinary individuals, there is no way to attain the result without practice. Therefore, in the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*: "The fault of not practicing is that the characteristics of samsara manifestly appear, the object-consciousness of self and other, as well as views with words, and objects with aims, will become the root of binding afflictions. One will also lose the path to Buddhahood, not understand the nature of the result, have no basis for the equality of all dharmas, the self-aware three realms will be bound, and one will fall due to conceptual thoughts." The above. Second, the reason for needing to practice is: liberation from these faults, which grants the perfect freedom of abundant qualities of practice. As it says in the same text: "Action cuts off attachment to objects, abandons afflictions and so on, and extracts the root of samsara. Through understanding, one can grasp the nature of mind, make it abide, exhaust the winds, find the path of emptiness of dharmata, and manifest the basis of self-nature purity." The above. Regarding the actual explanation of practice, it is divided into a general explanation from the perspective of showing the nature, and a specific explanation from the perspective of the actual method of practice. The first, from the perspective of those with object-oriented minds, explains the essence of practice, etymology, classification, definition, example, and six aspects of appellation; from the perspective of those with self-appearing minds, explains the essence of non-practice, and so on; and identifying one's own practice, these three aspects. Because this is also a way to stabilize the common understanding of both in the continuum, the first essence is: the mind abiding in one-pointedness and being able to be used for the meaning of vipassanā, cutting off the continuum of inner and outer movements, and the desire to stop grasping and holding. As it says in the same text: "Practice is said to be the abiding of the mind, cutting off inner and outer movements, and the cessation of grasping and holding." And in the *Thigle Kunsel*: "The essence is abiding in one-pointedness." And in the *Tsal Dzog*: "The essence of practice is non-conceptualization." The etymology is, in the *Tsal Dzog*: "The etymology shows the cutting off of scattering." Because it focuses on the meaning of the union of śamatha and vipaśyanā, and in order not to be distracted elsewhere, and in order to abide in it continuously

I, for the sake of habituation and familiarity, and for preventing the distraction of thoughts from an unpacified mind, it is called meditation. In the two tantras, "Freedom from Elaborations, Meaning Clarity" and "Bindu All-Illuminating," there are four definitive terms for meditation: Meditating by focusing on the meaning, meditating because of non-distraction, meditating because of non-separation, habituation and familiarity, and non-distraction. Thus it is said. The divisions are: general and specific, two types. Generally, with characteristics is the generation and completion stages, there are two types: with effort and without effort. Without characteristics, there are also two types: with effort and without effort, namely, mind-abiding, samadhi, and contemplation, these three are with effort. The Buddha's intention—unfabricated great natural state—is without effort. Specifically, there are also two kinds of wise ones who incorporate these. As it is said in "All-Illuminating": The divisions are shown as two types, with characteristics and without characteristics, two types. Without characteristics, there are also two types, namely, the great method of meditation without effort and meditation without effort. With characteristics, it is also the same. In short, there are two types: generation and completion. Thus it is said. In the "Madhyamaka," it is said: Meditation means mind-abiding, cutting off the inner and outer movements, the cessation of grasping and the grasped. What arises from the natural state is called contemplation. Wind, channels, bindus, bodily posture, eyes, and emptiness are what is desired in meditation. The light and color of letters, and the expansion and contraction of transformations, are called samadhi. The unfabricated, natural abiding reality, unchanging from that, is the intention of the Buddhas. Thus it is said. Again, it is said that there are two types: with effort and without effort, which are also included in the two types of wise ones. In "Accomplishment of Skill," it is said: The meditation of the continuum of thoughts, the meditation of emptiness without limit, the meditation of the characteristics of grasping and the grasped, the meditation of clarity of grasping and the grasped, and the meditation of the method of abiding without effort. Thus it is said. The characteristic is: Although there are many diverse differences elsewhere, here the nature of the ultimate intention is: No matter which of the four yogas of continuous practice, in the same state, the awareness of the exhaustion of phenomena, primordial purity, empty-clear, and unobstructed, is not mixed with the mind, intellect, and consciousness of the three realms, nor with the meditation and formless meditations, and there is no conceptualization and elaboration of grasping and the grasped.
