Thus it is. If it is like that, there are also cases of deviating from the path due to errors, which arise from the root of error. Also, errors occur due to the influence of obscurations. This is stated in the Tantra of the Luminous Razor: The nature of views is, to see the meaning of the non-meditative nature; if one does not know the non-meditative nature, it is an obscuration of views. In the nature of primordial equality, one does not look because there is no desire; to look to realize through meditation is a mistake of views. To make desires and calculations is said to be an error of view. Thus it is said. In summary, the view is to abide in equanimity, free from doubt, following the great vision of not seeing the way of abiding as it is, free from all elaboration and partiality, so one must destroy dualistic clinging, otherwise one will wander everywhere. Second, regarding the yogi who continuously practices meditation, there are two

Since nothing whatsoever of the appearances of objects has been ascertained, not knowing one’s own nature, without grasping and without clarity, this is the mistaken path of ungrasping blankness. These are not genuine śamatha, for when all subtle and coarse thoughts have ceased, the great samādhi of clear, lucid, self-aware, self-luminous nature is in danger of straying into the absence of effort and mindless blankness and so forth. If one strays and grasps that as supreme, that is a mistake. As it says in the Wisdom Sky: Śamatha is freedom from sinking and excitement, And Dzogchen is freedom from before and after. Similar and mistaken, one strays and goes astray. Therefore, the great dharmakāya is needed. So it is said. Non-conceptuality and emptiness blankness, equanimity and the habit of no-self, these three are the subtle mistaken paths of meditation that are spoken of. Secondly, the five ways of straying that arise from clarity in vipaśyanā are: Meditating on deities of complete fabrication through the generation stage; The arising of appearances of light from the nāḍīs, empty forms of the ten signs, and so forth; The mere bliss-emptiness of the arising of the two with skillful means; And all phenomena playing as the play of pure and impure mind—this is the grasping aspect of clear appearance, grasping external objects as this and that. Not knowing the arising, straying into objects as being self-existent and not finding confidence in the view; And grasping all the objects of the basis of suffering, the elements of space, as being self-existent; From that, grasping the mind on the same basis of things like pots, dust, and trees, and meditating on the sessions of abiding, moving, knowing, and seeing from that object—these five aspects are what transform color into letters, speculating and grasping at the abiding of the inner mind. This is the mistaken path of clear vipaśyanā. Deities and empty forms, bliss-emptiness, objects, and the nature of yoga, there is no difference in grasping and grasper, only a difference in the objects that have been ascertained. Vipaśyanā is the nature of both abiding and moving, awareness, bodhicitta, manifesting without dualistic grasping in the manner of self-aware wisdom—this is what is called vipaśyanā. Thinking it is so, speculating with the mind, examining abiding and moving, and so forth, no matter which extreme one relies on, it is not correct, and all clinging to extremes is a place of straying from genuine vipaśyanā, becoming a grasper and grasped in a distorted way, confusing it with the paths of tirthikas and other outsiders, going in a deluded manner, or the obscuration of view that has fallen in that direction.
