The four demons of straying are distinguished by having both hope and doubt. The behavior of the self-born demon of afflictions is: being deceived by the six afflictions, and three are behaviors of being scattered and confused. These arise in the straying place of King Earth Holder. In the Definitive Meaning Collection, it is said: The faults of rough behavior are taught: After entering the door of secret mantra, explaining to others what one has not realized oneself; slandering the wise, competing with equals; being arrogant and proud, desiring to be considered wise, merely seeking a basis for Dharma from words, showing off skills, creating doubt, destroying scriptures, in the future one will fall into the great hell. Now, listen again, Vajrasattva! Even if one has skill and power, because one has not guarded the behavior of the body, doing improper actions, the result will become a cause of suffering. Because one has not held onto the mind with mindfulness, speaking unrestrained language, one will distort the Dharma of others, in the future one will be born in the hot hell. Thus it is said. The behavior of meaningless words themselves is also a hypocritical outer demon, that is, being distracted by the busyness of Dharma practice, neglecting view and meditation, and mixing up view and practice, not practicing the skill of self-liberation, is a straying path. Likewise, body, speech, and mind also, without realizing the meaning, acting cautiously, even if acting like a servant, because it is hypocrisy, it contradicts the meaning. Thus it is said. Not only that, but whatever actions one does, all that can be done is a demon or straying path of non-accomplishment. In Wisdom Sky Equality, it is said: Why have you not realized the true meaning? Because whatever you do, mistakes will lead to great faults. Whatever good or bad you do without realization, you will fall to the end of samsara. Thus it is said. Like a small child, it is because of the ignorance that arises from not distinguishing the boundaries of permission and prohibition of common practice of shamatha and vipassana. In Mountain of Accumulation, it is said: Without understanding the inconceivable, placing the mind on the inconceivable, that child is a fool, and will fall into the birthplace of darkness. Thus it is said. In the first category, the demon of knowledge and qualities, this realization is a bad container of garrulousness, and also a cause of bad rebirths. Because one is self-righteous, full of confidence in one's own intellect, claiming to have realized the view without the signs of warmth, and proclaiming secrets to others. In Pile of Jewels, it is said: Without the signs of warmth arising in body and speech, claiming to have realized the view, it is like the wind blowing in an empty valley. Thus it is said. This middle one is diligent effort.

This is the second kind of mistake. Because one does not recognize the samadhi of the nature of awareness, and hopes to attain it through contrived practice, it is said: "Without knowing the self-born, inherent abode, who grasps the actions of the maker? Like the attachment of a painter." These are also stated in "Meaningful Clarity": "When behavior is unsteady and becomes erroneous, seven demons arise in those behaviors." And in "Fine Arrangement": "In the continuous yoga of conduct, there are three kinds of mistakes: If one behaves like a madman in all appearances, one will err into becoming an Asura. If one uses meaningless words, one will err into the view of the perishable aggregate. If one behaves like a young child in all the appearances of the six aggregates, one will err into an unpredicted state." Furthermore, the mistake of having grasping and fixation towards external objects and not grasping the key point of the view is stated in "Wisdom Space": "Not holding onto the memory of the view, the actions of the mind are unprotected. With the grasping and fixation of self-clinging, one falls into the birth place of darkness in the future." Fourth, in the continuation of the fruition, not being in harmony with the self-nature of the inherent fruit, one believes that the Dharmakaya of causes and conditions will newly arise, and deliberately fabricates with conceptual mind and strives to meditate on emptiness, causing emptiness to be lost on the path. Furthermore, seeking the essence, nature, and compassionate essence of the three kayas outside of oneself is also a fault of seeking other meanings. Believing in the spontaneous accomplishment of cause and effect is a mistake of the Great Perfection. Because there is an obscuration of not knowing that the fruit exists within oneself, and clinging to permanence and reality, this leads to confusion from the aspect of spontaneous accomplishment and primordial purity, thereby generating confusion such as nihilistic heretics. As stated in "Renouncing Jewels": "Not knowing the three kayas are primordially complete, seeking definitive words elsewhere is like searching for footprints without seeing the elephant." And as stated in "Source of All Qualities": "The view of eternalist heretics is based on an unchanging essence, confused in colored and shaped forms. The distinction of nihilistic heretics is based on the cessation of colorless and shapeless forms, confused that there is no cause and effect before and after." Just like this, and as stated in "Wisdom Space": "The view of eternalist heretics and the unchanging Dharmakaya of the Great Perfection, are similar and mistaken. The view of nihilistic heretics and the Dharmakaya, the indivisibility of space and wisdom, are similar and mistaken." And, "Definitive
