Hands and images should be known. Lord of Lanka, what is its nature? It is like this: the sound is great, completely pervasive, quickly understood, cuts through doubts, contemplates with one mind, constantly manifests, enters everywhere, generates intention, particularly enters, and subdues all. Lord of Lanka, what are its kinds? It is like this: like Brahma, like a lute, like song and dance, like a kalaviṅka, like the sound of a dragon, like a sound image. Lord of Lanka, what are its limbs? It is like this: generating perception, fully understanding, worthy of listening, without inconsistency, very profound, following after, nothing can obstruct it, pleasing to the ear, completely unconfused, very clear. In each category of door, wherever it appears, the limbs appear completely there. Lord of Lanka, what is its image? The image appears as a collection of letters, and it should be known that letters arise from the blessing of the secret and supreme. Lord of Lanka, the blessing of the secret and supreme is not only letters, but all dharmas such as letters arise from nothingness and are formed as established, accomplished as practiced, because wherever they are seen, they appear as seen, so letters also arise from the blessing of the inconceivable realm as an image of speech. Lord of Lanka, if everything is empty by nature, naturally unmade, originally luminous, unsearchable, and originally enlightened, then who strives for enlightenment

From nothingness, one cognizes everything. Lord of Lanka, an image can symbolize everything, but the reality does not originate from the image, nor is it non-origination. It is not appearance, nor is it non-appearance. It is not pervasive, nor is it non-pervasive. For example, everyone can produce the sound of the sky, but if asked where the sky is, no one can point and say, "It is here." Lord of Lanka, similarly, an image can symbolize the reality, but it cannot point and say, "It is here." Why is that? Because the image arises from the reality, it can symbolize it, and because it is an image, it can become the object of anything. But the reality cannot become the object of anything, so it cannot be pointed out as "It is here." Therefore, the secret intention of all Buddhas is that whether the Buddha appears in the world or not, whether sentient beings become Buddhas or not, everything inherently exists in its own nature, pervades everything, but is not seen by everyone. Everything that arises from it can be known, and it can also symbolize itself, but that which arises from it cannot be pointed out as "It is here." Lord of Lanka, the dharani (藏文:གཟུངས་,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:dhāraṇī,汉语字面意思:总持) of the image is that which is nothing and unseen, but everything arises from it, and it is not separate from anything. For example, what is an image is the reality. What is the reality is the image. What is reality and image is the realm of secret ultimate reality. What is secret ultimate reality is reality and image. However, secret ultimate reality is like the ocean, and everything that arises from blessings is like waves. Seeing these two as non-dual, liberated from the two extremes, not fixated on the middle way, and not becoming dualistic, that very suchness is the dharani Similarly, it is that which cannot be divided or destroyed by anything, is not fixated on anywhere, is equality, is immutability, is the nature of the sky, is name, sentence, meaning, and is the dharani (藏文:གཟུངས་,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:dhāraṇī,汉语字面意思:总持) of secret mantras. However, the nature of the image is also the realm of non-fixation.

And the actual nature is also not observable, it is only the unattainable emptiness, so that is the essence of the two. The unattainable emptiness produces all sentient beings and Buddhas everywhere, and because that is its nature, it is the sole essence that is not separate. Lord of Lanka, the samaya of the image is that any image does not transcend itself. No matter how it appears, it will not change or transcend from the actual essence. Therefore, there is no arising and merging, no inside and outside, no gate and depth, no gathering and separation, so it is samaya. Because everything does not transcend from its state, it is called samaya. Lord of Lanka, for example, Vajrasattva, if it is the realm of activity of the Buddhas, the supreme intention, then if an image of it is placed in front of any fool, what will that fool think? He said: Secret Lord, he would think like this, this is not Vajrasattva himself, it is only a copy of it. The Lord of Lanka said: Therefore, if the supreme ones observe, in the unattainable emptiness, Vajrasattva and its image are not other, not existing separately. Why is that? Because the nature of the two is suchness, that is how it is. If that is separate, then it should not produce results by seeing. The Lord of Lanka said: Secret Lord, are those not different? He replied: Lord of Lanka, in the case of not understanding, it is said that the image and the meaning it symbolizes are merely appearances. If the supreme ones strive for suchness, then there is no difference in that. He said: Secret Lord, then what is the use of the speech, symbols and names of all dharmas? He replied: Lord of Lanka, I have already dispelled your doubts. He said: Secret Lord, then what do those great wise ones do by striving and creating well through great difficulties? He replied: Lord of Lanka, although that is the case, it is for the sake of guiding those who are attached to signs, and even those who are great in wisdom have not yet gained the experience of great meaning through small means and great deeds. Lord of Lanka, from that suchness, miracles always appear.
