Then, the Bhagavan spoke to the entire assembly of faithful ones: "Friends, do you see the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the powerful Vajrapani?" They replied: "Bhagavan, we see him. Sugata, we see him." The Bhagavan said: "Friends, whoever mentally pays homage to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Vajrapani in this way, it is as if they have paid homage to nine thousand kotis of Tathagatas." Then, the entire assembly, complete with all, touched the feet of Vajrapani with their heads, paid homage, and said: "Great Bodhisattva, you are praised, honored, and extolled by the Tathagatas, well done, well done! You are endowed with great diligence and asceticism, well done!" Thus they spoke. Then, the youth Vajra-deva paid homage to the feet of the Bhagavan and to Vajrapani, and spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Vajrapani: "Father, I too delight in the supreme vidya. In order to prevent all yakshas, all heretics, all vidyadharas, all siddhas, all nagas, all pretas, and all kritya from creating obstacles for those who practice the supreme vidya, for the benefit of all sentient beings, I will bestow a secret mantra." Then, the lord of yakshas, Vajrapani, spoke thus to the youth Vajra-deva: "Good-faced one, it is excellent that you strive to benefit all sentient beings! Good-faced one, speak the secret mantra for the benefit of the supreme vidya!" Then, with the permission of his father, the youth Vajra-deva rejoiced and exulted, paid homage to the two feet of the Bhagavan, and spoke the secret mantra that will surely destroy heresy: Namo Buddhaya (Tibetan: ན་མོ་བུདྡྷཱ་ཡ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो बुद्धाय, Sanskrit Romanization: Namo Buddhāya, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Buddha). If you want to destroy the Yakshas, go to the direction where the Yaksha or Yakshini lives, take a four-finger-long iron nail, recite it one hundred and eight times, and nail it in, then the Yaksha will run away. If you want to practice, then let a painter who observes the fast draw a golden image of the Buddha on an undamaged cloth. On his left, draw a blue Vajrapani, adorned with all ornaments. On the right of the Tathagata, draw an image of a Vajra family youth, golden in color, holding a lotus in his left hand and giving the supreme gift with his right hand. Below him, draw a practitioner holding a bowl in his hand. Then the mantra holder eats half a month's food, drinks milk, and recites the mantra. Then use eight parts of ghee, fast for one day and one night.
