Thirty-two years old rancid butter, that butter four handfuls, and milk four handfuls, honey should also have four handfuls. Burning cowhide, the powder should also be put in four handfuls. Also put in a hundred cloves of garlic. Thirty measures of arura, double the amount of three pungents. The healer should put in, together make fine powder. Gods, the Tathāgata has commanded to destroy all the wicked ones, I have spoken all the good ones. The chapter on the maddening spirit is complete. What was said before, what kind of spirit? Know that it is an asura spirit. Fierce and very jealous, they harm the world. Asuras possess those who are glorious, large in body, handsome in form, and endowed with virtues. Listen carefully to its signs. They despise the mantra holders, and they also speak the Vedas. They also lie, saying, "I am the destroyer, I am the pervader." They transform all the spirits' behavior and appearance. They cry, Sometimes they also grab branches. Sometimes they also eat food. They also pick grass with their hands, and instantly harm people. They also speak evil words. They also laugh very loudly. These are the signs of the asura spirits. The ritual should also be the same. By whatever recognition of it, that spirit should be expelled. All flowers and incense, various garlands, lotuses, utpalas, puṣelacis, petals of red utpalas, and cooked and uncooked meat. The offerings should be gentle. Then the mantra holders should cleanse themselves and give to the west. By this offering cake, that spirit will be quickly expelled. If it is not expelled by that, then apply this other method by which the spirit will be expelled. Gather three fruits, chili peppers, bālā, atibalā, thaltresa, and buśelaci. Having gathered the five roots, boil them in four measures of ghee and four measures of cow urine. Cook slowly over a small fire. Then feed it to that person. Similarly, also pour it into the nostrils. Anointing the eyes and body will become frightening. Pouring it into the nostrils, afflicted by fear, and drinking ghee will also cause fear.
