In the mandala, place vessels filled with white sandalwood scented water, and set out five offering vessels. Scatter various flowers and burn white sandalwood incense to make offerings to the noble Avalokiteśvara. Light sesame oil lamps with forty-two kinds of fragrances, and place forty incense burners. Recite the wrathful king twenty-one times, and the pure mantra holder should wear clean clothes. Bind the Amoghapāśa mudrā seven times. Make the recitation mudrā, sit in the lotus position, and extend the fingers of the left hand in the shape of a lotus. Recite one hundred and eight times. When one hundred and eight recitations are complete, a sound of "Excellent!" will be heard from the east, and you will feel joy. The king, ministers, and retinue of consorts will be under your control, and by reciting their names, they will come from a thousand yojanas away. All will become like servants, asking, "What is your command?" They will do as they are commanded. That person will become a guru and will be greatly praised. By reciting two times one hundred and eight times, Indra, Brahma, Vishnu, Maheśvara, Yama, the water god, the wind god, and others will be under your control, and they will act according to your command. They will do as they are commanded. The Four Great Kings and their retinue of yakshas will be under your control. By reciting three times one hundred and eight times, the sun and moon will descend from the sky and stand before you. The night deities and sky deities will come and stand before you, and they will be under your control. All will do as you command and remain there. By reciting four times one hundred and eight times, all nāgas will be under your control. All the ocean nāga kings, such as Nanda and Upananda, will be under your control. Place the four offering vessels and make offerings to the noble Avalokiteśvara. Remember the King of Wrathful Ones twenty-one times. Bind the mudra of the unfailing lasso twenty-one times. Sit in the lotus position in front of the painted image, focusing on all sentient beings, and remember all the Tathagatas. Look with loving eyes in the four directions. Remember all sentient beings in hell, the realm of Yama, the Asuras, and the realm of the Pretas. Remember the eight great hells and look with a compassionate heart. Bind the mudra of recitation in the form of a lotus and recite the mantra. When one hundred and eight are complete, the four directions will shake and a sound will be heard, and all those sentient beings in hell will be completely liberated. All the gates of hell will be closed, destroyed, and reduced to ashes. Those sentient beings in hell will go to happy realms. May I myself be completely liberated from all the feelings of suffering in hell until the ultimate end of enlightenment. The body will also be adorned with excellent marks, and all sentient beings who see it will become irreversible. By reciting two hundred and sixteen times, those sentient beings under the earth who are dark and without light will be freed from darkness by the power of the essence of the unfailing lasso, and light will arise. Those liberated sentient beings will be reborn in the realm of the noble Avalokiteśvara, abandoning old age and death. Until the ultimate end of enlightenment, one will attain the samadhi called "All Power Supreme, Immaculate," and life will last for kalpas. After death, one will be reborn in the realm of Sukhavati. Until the ultimate end of enlightenment, one will abide at his feet and be free from all sorrow. Grind white sandalwood, musk, camphor, and various other kinds of incense into fine powder, grind it well again, and mix it with frankincense, etc.
