After some time, they regained consciousness, and the king stood up, crying out in sorrow: Alas, my beloved, pleasing, and delightful son! Why did the Lord of Death take him so quickly? Why did the Lord of Death not come to me first? I will have no greater suffering than this! The queen also awoke from her faint, tearing her hair and beating her chest with both hands, rolling on the ground like a fish thrown onto the shore, crying out in sorrow like a buffalo cow that has lost her calf, or a yak cow that has lost her calf: Alas, this lovely and precious son, this lotus! Who has destroyed it from the earth and utterly ruined it? My son, with his pleasing eyes and moon-like face! Which enemy of mine has destroyed him here on this earth today? Alas, seeing my excellent son killed on this earth, why has this body not perished today? Seeing such suffering and not breaking, my heart must be made of iron! Today in a dream, some of my breasts were cut off by a sword. My teeth were also pulled out, so today my beloved son has quickly become unfortunate. I found three baby birds, and one was taken away by a hawk like this. Of my three sons surrounded by me, today the Lord of Death has taken one. Alas, woe! This is the fruition of that sinful dream! Then, the king and queen wept sorrowfully in many ways, removed all their ornaments, and together with a great crowd of people, made offerings to the bones of their son, and placed the bones of the young man in that place. Ananda, at that time, do you think that the young prince, the great being, was someone else? Do not view it that way. Why? Because I myself was that, at that time.

Then he became known as the young prince Mahāsattva. O Kungawo, even at that time when I was not completely free from desire, hatred, and ignorance, I benefited all beings by freeing them from the suffering of hell and so on. What need is there to mention now that I have become a perfectly enlightened Buddha, free from all faults? Thus, for the sake of each and every being, I am willing to remain in hell for countless eons, and I liberate beings from samsara. Mahāsattva benefited all beings with various kinds of extremely difficult deeds. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: When completely seeking this supreme bodhi, I gave up my body for many eons, Just as I became a king and a prince, Thus I completely gave up my bodies. Remembering the previous births, There arose a king named Great Chariot. He had a son who was very generous in giving, Named Mahāsattva, who was very sacred. He had two elder brothers, Named Great Sound and Great God. Those troops entered the dense forest. They saw a tigress tormented by hunger. At that time, that supreme Mahāsattva gave rise to compassion. This tigress is tormented by hunger and thirst, She will eat my children. Thus, I will now give up my body. Great Chariot's son Mahāsattva, Seeing the hungry tigress and the tiger cubs, In order to liberate them, with compassion, He jumped from the steep cliff. The earth shook together with the mountain.
