Having gone to the pond in the empty place, he unloaded the water from the elephant, filling the pond with water from all four directions, flowing in all directions. Wherever the merchant's son Water Giver went, those thousands of fish would swim there. The goddess of lineage thought, 'Why are these thousands of fish swimming towards me?' She also thought, 'These thousands of fish must be extremely hungry and are begging me for food. I should give them food.' Then, the goddess of lineage said to Water Cloth, the son of the merchant's son Water Giver: 'Son, ride the fastest of all elephants and go to our house as quickly as possible. Tell Grandfather the merchant: "Grandfather, Water Giver sends a message saying, gather all the food prepared for the parents, siblings, male servants, female servants, and workers in this house and quickly send it to Water Cloth who is riding the elephant." Say that.' Then, the son Water Cloth rode the elephant and ran very quickly back to his house, explaining the situation in detail. Then, the son Water Cloth loaded all the previously mentioned food onto the back of the elephant, rode the elephant, and went to the pond in the empty place. Water Giver saw his son Water Cloth and was very happy. He took the food from his son, scattered it in the pond, and satisfied the thousands of fish. Then he thought, 'I once heard in a monastery from a monk reciting the Mahayana sutras that whoever hears the name of the Tathagata Jewel Crest at the time of death will be reborn in the happy realm of heaven. I should also explain the profound Dharma of dependent origination to these fish and recite the name of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Jewel Crest.'

Thinking that it should be done like this. At that time, in Jambudvipa, the views of sentient beings became twofold, some believed in the Mahayana, while others reviled it. Then, the merchant's son Water Giver, at that time, immersed both knees in the pond, and specifically said: Homage to the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, the Jewel Crested Tathagata. He specifically said it like this. The Tathagata Jewel Crested Tathagata, in the past, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, in the ten directions, whoever hears my name at the time of death, may they be reborn in the Trayastrimsa heaven after death, and share the same fortune as the gods. He made such a prayer. After that, the merchant's son Water Giver explained this Dharma to those who were born as animals, that is to say, because this exists, that arises; because this is born, that is born. That is to say, with ignorance as the condition, actions arise; with actions as the condition, consciousness arises; with consciousness as the condition, name and form arise; with name and form as the condition, the six sense bases arise; with the six sense bases as the condition, contact arises; with contact as the condition, feeling arises; with feeling as the condition, craving arises; with craving as the condition, grasping arises; with grasping as the condition, becoming arises; with becoming as the condition, birth arises; with birth as the condition, old age and death arise, as well as sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and turmoil. In this way, this great mass of suffering will arise. That is to say, with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease, and so on, in this way, this great mass of suffering will also cease. O noble goddess, thus at that time, the merchant's son Water Giver, after speaking these words in accordance with the Dharma to those who were born as animals, returned to his own home together with his water cloth and the essence of water. Then, at another time, the merchant's son Water Giver, after enjoying a grand festival feast

Having become intoxicated with alcohol, he lay down on the bed. At that time, at that moment, a great omen occurred. After that night had passed, those hundreds of thousands of fish reached the time of death, and were born sharing the same fortune as the gods of the Thirty-Three. As soon as they were born, they had this kind of thought: "By what cause of virtuous action were we born into this among the gods of the Thirty-Three?" They also thought to themselves: "We were hundreds of thousands of fish in Jambudvipa. We were born in the realm of animals. The merchant's son Water Giver satisfied us with plenty of water and excellent food. He also taught us the profound Dharma of dependent origination. He also proclaimed the name of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, Jeweled Crest. By that cause and condition of virtuous Dharma, we were born into this among the gods. We should go to where the merchant's son Water Giver is and make offerings to him." Then, those hundreds of thousands of sons of gods disappeared from among the gods of the Thirty-Three and arrived at the house of the merchant's son Water Giver. At that time, the merchant's son Water Giver was lying in bed. Those sons of gods placed a hundred thousand strings of pearl necklaces above his head, a hundred thousand strings of pearl necklaces at his feet, a hundred thousand strings of pearl necklaces on his right side, and a hundred thousand strings of pearl necklaces on his left side. They also rained down a great rain of Mandarava flowers that covered up to the knees, and played heavenly music. This awakened all the people of Jambudvipa, and also awakened the merchant's son Water Giver. Then, those hundreds of thousands of sons of gods ascended into the sky. Those sons of gods also rained down Mandarava flowers in the land of King Indra, the Lord of Light, and in other places. They went to the great pond in the depths of the forest, and there they visibly rained down a great rain of Mandarava flowers on that great pond. Immediately, they disappeared and returned to the heavenly realm. There, they rejoiced with the five desirable qualities.
