At that time, relics will exist. The leaves of the Bala tree, becoming umbrellas of three jewels, when will they become a shelter from the rain, at that time, relics will exist. When the boats on the sea, together with wheels and sails, are pulled onto the land and walk, at that time, relics will exist. When the owls among the birds, holding the fragrant sandalwood mountain, carry it in their beaks and walk, at that time, relics will exist. After the teacher, the prophesying Brahmin Kaundinya, heard these verses, the Licchavi youth Sarvadarśana-priya addressed him again with these verses: Well done, well done, excellent youth! Prince of the Victorious Ones, powerful in speech, brave and skilled in means, you have obtained the sacred prophecy. The protector of the world, the savior, the Tathagata is great, in an inconceivable order, youth, please listen to me. The realm of the Buddha is inconceivable, the Tathagatas are incomparable, all Buddhas are always peaceful, all Buddhas truly appear, all Buddhas have the same color, this is the Dharma nature of the Buddha. Bhagavan, this is not false, the Tathagata is unborn, a body as solid as a vajra, he shows a manifestation body. The relics of the great sage, there is no saying that they are as small as mustard seeds. If the body has no bones and blood, how can there be relics? For the benefit of sentient beings, he placed the relics through skillful means. The perfect Buddha is the Dharmakaya, the Tathagata is the Dharmadhatu, how is the teaching of the Dharma, the body of the Bhagavan is like that. After I heard and knew these things, I prayed to the holy one, and I spoke these words for the sake of prophesying that event. Then, thirty-two thousand sons of the gods, having heard this profound teaching of the Tathagata showing the measure of life, all generated the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete mind of enlightenment, and with great joy arising in their minds, they spoke these verses in unison: The Buddha will not completely pass into nirvana, nor will the Dharma disappear, for the sake of

For the sake of maturation, they show complete passing away. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is inconceivable. The Tathagata is of eternal form. For the benefit of sentient beings, they show various manifestations. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Adornment of Beauty, having heard the measure of the lifespan of the Buddha, the Bhagavan Shakyamuni, from those Buddhas, the Bhagavans, and those two excellent beings, rose again from his seat, folded his palms in reverence, and requested thus: "Bhagavan, since those Buddhas, the Bhagavans, do not pass into nirvana, and there are no relics placed in the world, why is it that in the sutras it is said that the Buddha passes into nirvana, and that gods and humans, with reverence and respect, make offerings to the relics of the past Buddhas, the Bhagavans, placed in the world, and that the world, including gods and humans, gains immeasurable merit? But here it is said that those things do not exist. What is this like? Bhagavan, please explain and differentiate with compassion." Then, the Bhagavan spoke to the assembly of Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas, Adornment of Beauty, and others: "The Bhagavan has passed into nirvana, and the relics have been placed in the world. This should be understood as being taught with a hidden meaning. Son of the lineage, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with these ten dharmas, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, has declared that there is a great nirvana that is true and real. What are the ten? They are: The Tathagatas have completely abandoned the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge, which is called passing into nirvana; the Tathagatas have directly realized the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena, which is called passing into nirvana; becoming the abode of the body and the abode of the Dharma, which is called passing into nirvana; for the sake of accomplishing the deeds of taming sentient beings, which is called passing into nirvana; because of the manifestation of reality itself, there is no difference in characteristics, therefore, because of equality in the Dharmakaya."

It is also called Nirvana, because it clearly sees that the nature of Samsara and Nirvana are inseparable. It is called Nirvana because it realizes the essence of all Dharmas, and purity manifests. It is called Nirvana because it is skilled in the principle that all Dharmas are neither born nor destroyed. It is called Nirvana because it obtains the wisdom of suchness, the realm of Dharma, and the equality of the ultimate reality. It is called Nirvana because it knows that there is no difference between the suchness of all Dharmas and the suchness of Nirvana. Furthermore, sons of good family, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, with these ten Dharmas, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, has declared that great Nirvana exists in truth and reality. What are the ten? That is to say, the basis of all afflictions is faith and desire; desire arises for whatever one has faith in. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are called Nirvana because they are free from faith and desire. The Tathagatas are free from all faith and desire, and do not take any Dharma, therefore they are without grasping, without going, without coming, without taking, therefore it is called Nirvana. That which has no going, no coming, and nothing to be taken is the Dharmakaya, without birth and without cessation. In this without birth and without cessation, it is called Nirvana. This without birth and without cessation cannot be spoken of, because the path of words is cut off, it is called Nirvana. There is no self, no person, only the Dharma of arising and ceasing, therefore it is called Nirvana because one obtains the transference of place. Seeing afflictions and near afflictions as sudden, whatever is the nature of Dharma is abiding, without going and without coming, as such it is realized by the Buddha Bhagavat, therefore it is called Nirvana. Reality is truth, and other than that is falsehood. Whatever is truth is reality, the nature of reality is the nature of the Tathagata, therefore in this Nirv
