Free from two characteristics, not abiding in two extremes, invisible, beyond what is to be seen, without name and without characteristics, that is called the Dharmadhatu. O goddess of lineage, how are the five skandhas to be established as the Dharmadhatu? The five skandhas are not produced by causes and conditions. If they were produced by causes and conditions, then either what has already been produced would be produced, or what has not been produced would be produced. If what has already been produced were to be produced, then there would be no need for causes and conditions. If what has not been produced were to be produced, then there would be no specific designation of production. Why is that? Because the nature of things that have not been produced is non-existent, therefore they are without name and without characteristics, unmeasurable, incomparable, and cannot be expressed by analogy; they are not to be produced by causes and conditions. O goddess of lineage, for example, the sound of a drum depends on wood, leather, and hands to produce sound, but the past of the sound of the drum is empty, the future is also empty, and the present is also empty. The sound of the drum does not arise from wood, nor does it arise from leather and hands. It is not produced by the three times, therefore it is unborn. What is unborn is not ceased. What is not ceased does not come from anywhere. What does not come from anywhere does not go anywhere. What does not go anywhere is neither permanent nor annihilated, therefore it is neither one nor different. Why is that? If it were one, it would be no different from the Dharmadhatu. In that case, all ordinary beings would also realize the ultimate truth and attain the supreme bliss of Nirvana. But that is not the case, so it is not one. If it were different, then the conduct of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas would also be clinging to that characteristic, and they would not be liberated, and not being free from the bonds of afflictions, they would not manifest the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because the conditioned and the unconditioned of the noble ones are one in their true nature, therefore they are not different. Therefore, these five skandhas are neither existent nor non-existent, and are not produced by causes and conditions.

Nor is it produced by (him). Nor is it produced by the absence of cause and condition. Words cannot reach it. It has no name or characteristics. It has no cause and condition. It cannot be shown by example. It is devoid of beginning and end. It is empty by its own nature. This is to be known by the noble ones, and is not the realm of others. Therefore, the five aggregates are shown as the realm of Dharma. Furthermore, any goddess of lineage, any son or daughter of lineage, who considers the ultimate truth of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and the conventional truth to be non-other, that is immeasurable. The realm of activity of noble ones and the base is not the same or different in nature. Not abandoning the conventional truth, nor being separated from the ultimate truth, that is abiding in the realm of Dharma and practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva. At that time, when the Blessed One spoke thus, that goddess of lineage arose with great joy and delight, stood up from her seat, draped her upper garment over one shoulder, placed her right knee on the ground, folded her palms together, bowed her head, and requested the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, how should I train in the conduct of a Bodhisattva as taught by the Blessed One? Then, the great Brahma, the ruler of the Saha world, sitting in the assembly of attendants, asked the goddess of lineage, Jewel Light, this: Goddess, how do you practice this extremely difficult Bodhisattva conduct to gain mastery over it? Then, the goddess of lineage said to the great Brahma: Great Brahma, just as the Blessed One has said, its meaning is very profound, and all ordinary beings cannot understand its meaning, it is the realm of activity of the noble ones, and it is extremely subtle and difficult to know. I, relying on this Dharma, have obtained a state of bliss. If this statement is true, then in this world of five degenerations, all those immeasurable, countless, and inconceivable beings will become golden in color, possessing the thirty-two marks, neither male

And completely transformed into neither male nor female. Abiding on a precious lotus, enjoying immeasurable bliss, with a rain of supreme divine flowers falling, and divine music naturally arising without being played, may I be endowed with such offerings. As soon as this was said, in the entire realm of the five degenerations, all the sentient beings residing there turned golden in color, possessed the marks of a great being, and became neither male nor female. Abiding on a precious lotus and enjoying immeasurable bliss, it was just like the palace of the Paranirmitavasavartin gods (the sixth heaven), where there are no lower realms, various precious trees stand tall, the realm is filled with lotuses of the seven precious substances, a rain of the seven precious substances and divine flowers falls, and one abides enjoying various divine music. Then, the goddess of lineage, Jewel Radiance, also transformed from a female body into a Brahma body and abided there. The Bodhisattva Jewel Radiance said to the Brahma King: Venerable one, how do you practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva? He replied: Great Brahma King, just as the moon in water practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, so do I practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Just as a dream practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, so do I practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Just as a mirage practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, so do I practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Just as an echo practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, so do I practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Having heard these words, the Great Brahma said to the Bodhisattva: Venerable one, abiding in what meaning do you speak such words? The goddess said: Brahma King, no dharma is established as having a true nature, but is established dependent on causes and conditions. The Brahma King said: If that is so, then all ordinary beings would also attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Why do you speak such words? A foolish person is one thing, and a wise person is another.
